Reviews for "Kill the Plumber"

Wow this game is pretty awesome. I played it until I had all of the trophies and now I wish that this had more levels! Thanks for the great game!

keybol responds:

Thank you! We will expand on this definitely as we enjoyed it playing too as much as we made it. And since players also enjoy this kind of game.

Very unique. I have never seen a game like this and it is very fun.

I LOVE THIS GAME. Can you add more levels and characters like koopas, dry bowler, footballers, giant bullets, shadow plumber, ghost plumber, green plumber (luigi), mushrooms (toads), poisonous mushrooms, ghost circles, laser eyes, that creepy piano, metal plumber, flying plumber, spring plumber, double health plumber, tiny plumber, orange princess (daisy), king bomber, more pipe teleporting, fish, kissing fish, giant fish, spiky fish, ex. also I have a small amount of lag.

keybol responds:

hi thanks for the enemy suggestion. you can check our facebook page to see the new content we are making. for the lag you can right click and select medium or low quality

Very good time waster, interesting level designs and decent puzzles in it. I like the spin of the enemies taking revenge on the plumber, who we all know is supposed to represent. Game is not too long and has simple controls.

Music/SFX: I can't say much on this, as it's meant to be a parody of Mario in some ways, and possibly original in others. The music that you hear doesn't exactly match with the theme of the background (underground, castle), but that's just bias from other games altogether. Still, an underground theme would be better with a pseudo-"creepy" theme going, and a castle with more "epic" theme. As for the final stage(s), there was no final boss music so kind of a letdown. Understandable, since it's more work to create a new tileset stage to have it play a new song, but it would have been a nice touch.

Visuals: Not overbearing, and is simple. It doesn't hurt the eyes to look at due to bad color combos, brightness, or just flat out BAD art. Enemies are simple in design, and the references are super clear. Referenced enemies do as one would think, instead of confusing those (even if for a brief moment) who would recognize them. You'd be amazed at how people can mess up a simple thing by doing too much.

Gameplay: The speed of the game isn't too fast and controls are easy to figure out/explained outright. There is a restart button (R), but it is a little laggy to restart. I haven't found a main menu button, but is easily done from the pause menu in the top right or P. When a level is failed, it's not set to have the common "Retry/Main Menu" options, and throws you back into the level. This is a huge positive, especially in games with no split paths as going back to the main menu serves no purpose other than to take a break (just pause) or to retry a level for a better score. If you're trying the most current level, you are most likely already going for the new score and have failed and are going to retry or are on the newest and trying to progress. A retry screen is just slowing down the flow of the game.

Difficulty: The difficulty curve is actually set pretty low and you're given a few levels to learn about your new minion. Every 4th level, you're given a "test" level to test your skills with the enemy and your ability to hit, dodge, or outsmart the AI. Usually, these tests will require more than one try and some a lot more than others, so the whole no Restart/Main Menu thing is a big benefit. Once you've reached your 108 stars, then things get more fun. Some of the levels were actually easier, but that's because I've done a lot of those types of levels (sliders).

Overall: The game is short, levels are usually very quick to finish or fail and the looped music isn't driving me to drill a hole in my head. Everything is clearly explained with proper grammar and spelling, so that's nice. A walkthrough is even given for those who are unable to solve what they need to do, though I am unsure if it will solve the achievements.

===Achievements===
Some of these are tough, or are sneaky. I'll give some tips on how I did them.

~Deathtouch: A little tough, but your goal is to make him jump at a pipe, and make him land in a corner, so you can walk into him. Stand between the 2nd and 3rd star and wait for the plumber to jump to the right over you. Once he's in midair, walk right.
~Shortcut: Walk left off the screen and immediately hold right to go back onscreen after falling a bit.
~Jumpless: Walk right onto the 4th block. Walk left to the 3rd block when he's about to hit your block, then go right onto the 4th again. Rinse and repeat.
~Must Kill: Tough, but it requires that you keep walking left, and only stopping briefly to avoid the fireballs. By the time you reach the plumber, you'll have 1-2 seconds left. If he's in the air, your explosion should still reach him so detonate.

===General Tips===
~Expect to fail a lot. This isn't meant to say that you're bad, but anything that you do easily will be a surprise (or not), but your failures won't be as rough as your expectations of yourself aren't as high.
~If you're having trouble with the 4th level in a row, try going back to the other three levels and getting all 3 stars on each of the levels. Practice your minions' skills.
~Don't try too hard to complete the level on your first try. This is a huge mistake, as it sets self-expectations that can fall apart later. Instead, use the level to learn what the AI does. If you happen to beat it out of luck, great. If not, then you've learned how the level operates a little bit more.
~Your minions are super slow. Know this and think about how to move around more efficiently if you need to, or manipulate the AI into buying you more time or whatever it is.
~Never give up. Cheesy and super old advice, but by failing, you learn. Find out why you failed and fix it. This will be super important for a later level involving the plumber, fireballs, stars, and a lone... Goomba I guess.

keybol responds:

hey this is a very long comment, thank you! I'll get on with your other points but for now I'll respond to your request for boss music. we have a music just for the boss battle, golden king.

I've read your comment many times so many thanks for the tips you gave to players. You're correct in every point, the game is like classic games where you learn from your mistake and try to improve.

A fantastic, easy to pick up, highly addictive and fun little puzzle platformer in the same vein as Braid… Only this time it's far more amusing as you finally get to take the koopas & Goombas side against a certain genocidal dodgy Italian plumber! :-)
