Reviews for "Doris and the Dragon: Ep1"

Well, on the positive side, it's a fun and creative game with likable characters, a unique art style, and puzzle logic that actually makes some degree of sense, unlike a lot of adventure games you see.

SPOILERS

Unfortunately, I found a glitch that stopped me cold. Once you're in the Daemon's stomach, if you climb to the very top of the path and hover your mouse in the upper left part of the screen, you'll see the word "Daemon" pop up. If you choose Examine, you'll get the same text as when you first saw him sleeping on the cliff. If you choose Interact, the game seems to freeze. And since I usually browse with Private Mode on, this means I didn't have a save file available when I had to refresh the page. I'm reviewing this now and giving it four stars because what I was able to play was really good and made me confident the rest of the game will match up quality-wise. I just don't want to ruin the luster by having to play through it twice in a row. I'll come back some other time and finish it up properly. And finally, I think it might be good to pick up Doris' walking pace just a little. It wasn't super draggy, and I know she's old, but it might help keep the pace up. All the same, this game was really good, and I look forward to the next parts!

ArrogantPixel responds:

Thank you for the very detailed feedback! We were discussing last night how we should have put a disclaimer in warning people that we use temporary files on the browser to save - we aim to do this in the next update. Also, your bugs have been noted! If you want to experience the game in full screen and not worry about the save function, you can download a DRM free version without ads on our website. Thanks for playing!

Sorry got bored with it after 15 mins of going back and forth. Waiting for Doris, waiting for thing s to happen, waiting for conversations to end. Lots of waitng. ZZZZZZ

ArrogantPixel responds:

Some people look for different things when it comes to games, it definitely won't appeal to everyone. Thanks for trying it anyway!

I like the story, but...

If I can play another game on the side, while waiting for something to happen, then the game is too slow and unresponsive... and I did, so it is. Moving Doris is tedious. And the pauses to save or load text & graphics seem... excessive, for 21st century computers.

So, nice design, I like the minimalist pixel art, nice moos & story, but _way_too_slow_ for a casual puzzle game

ArrogantPixel responds:

Your points are noted, thanks again for playing and for the rating!

Art: Simple, a bit too simple, but it didn't really bother me. The start screen was amazing.

Soundtrack: Pretty good. It suited the atmosphere and theme. I liked it.

Gameplay: I love the controls, how you have to hold down on an object and you get various ways to interact with it. I love Doris and her humour, but she sometimes walks a bit too slowly. The game tends to get boring.

Overall: The game was very nicely made. It was definitely pleasing to the eye, and the ear, although the graphics are a bit too simple and stale. I couldn't finish the game, not because it was hard, but simply because I got bored. I probably liked the characters, controls, and music the most.

ArrogantPixel responds:

Thanks so much for playing - Your points are noted. We are going into production for episodes 2 and 3 very soon.

I like it a lot though Doris sometimes moves so slow and some things are hard to spot on the screen.
But I'm stuck. (Bit of a spoiler warning)
After I escaped the daemon, I still don' t have my coin. shouldn't he have dropped it? I can't even select him.

ArrogantPixel responds:

I don't want to post too many spoilers so all I'll say is try examining some of the items you still have. :) Thanks for playing!
