Reviews for "SS - Singularities"

Woot!!

very informative and entertaining, it made me think a little lol use my brain power:) the theory of singularity is relativively quantumtastic:)

While not as intensely informative or annotated as some of your previous works, it looks smoother and sounds a bit more easy going (a good thing).

Is quantum physics and general relativity, analogous to, science (man's understanding so far) and nature (what actually is)? I think the real dichotomy, is between 'what is', and 'what we think it to be'. So, how far can our (collective/collaborative) will change that natural reality? Can it really make our brains network across the globe, live to be hundreds of years old, and stand over 20 feet tall? Is it just a matter of setting aside a few hours of the day, to concentrate on an altered state of reality?

This was pretty interesting, and it's definitely cool to see informative videos.
I did sort of feel like a certain amount of knowledge was presumed/prequisite to really understand this video (I didn't watch the other videos in your series, so if they're all meant to build on each other you might be able to disregard this).

I also didn't always feel like the visuals were engaging or provided a fuller/alternate understanding to the concepts.

Consider looking at some other artists that work with audio heavy material to look for ways to keep your budget maybe a bit low but still more fully engage the viewer. Vi Hart is a great example if you're not familiar with her work. It's not as 'educational,' but Nina Paley also does some really interesting stuff that is very satisfying in terms of arcs and shapes coming together.

On a different note, it was sort of odd to me that you brought in the female duplicate of Patchman character to 'help explain' but she didn't seem speak (just sort of pointed things out/stood as a visual aid). I can understand that it might be hard/another step to get a female voice actor, but maybe something to consider for next time!

Anyway, keep up the good work! I'll definitely try to watch more of your videos in the future and learn a bit more!

First, not to bash... plz... do NOT take it that way.

Having personally studied the physics to the best of my research for years, I can honestly say that (following with Okum's Razor "forgive spelling") there is no "hole to the "Black Hole" model. It's about the same as such things as a neutron star, quasar, pulsar, and similar entities. The shear magnitude is the only relevant difference. It's still a huge great (un-imaginably dense) ball of "something". This huge entity is so dense, light doesn't escape unchanged, and just like you can warp a window over a stage with a perfectly good lightsource behind it, so much that it shows a definite black spot in the middle, so too can this "black hole" phenomenon so drastically alter light's travel through space, especially for being so far distant from the earth.
On the quantum level, it seems (to me) to be easier to believe we are simply losing track of particles and waves as they emanate from our reactors, rather than the possibility of them actually being produced from nothing, or reduced to nothing. Fundamentals in physics are restrictive againts that, and I would offer that those principles still stand.
Think about this for a moment, PLZ...
If nothing could escape a black hole (as so many advocate)... Then how is it that gamma is blasted across the galaxies every time a black hole "eats" something? If nothing can escape, and yet the black hole is the source, why all the gamma? I think there's something more like a gravitationally induce fission reaction caused here, myself. It's not the totalitarian end-all of existence, but something just close enough to be often and easily mistaken for it...
Of course, it's only my best suggestion (if not so humble)... lol
Happy to converse (at least from time to time on the matter)...
Your animation has it's own style, though I might caution that you should take a little more time and make something more fluid. (the geeks of the world would rejoice in that)... But if this is a style pick, rather than your limit as an animator, do as you will. It's informative, and at least mildly entertaining...
Just trying to help... at least where I can.

RiverJordan responds:

Hey man!

I freaking LOVE this post! I didn't once think you were bashing dude, this is totally the vibe that i dig!

I love what you're saying about how a black hole doesn't just eat everything, it also is radiating all of this gamma (and maybe even other stuff we can't detect either, right?).

In the last episode about black holes, that was exactly the idea that was proposed.

I don't really think the black hole is a "hole", but a point of polarity transition. Essentially a point where the matter is so dense and compacted and then transitions into a new form. I'm not sure what that form is, especially at a level of galactic black hole.

But you can see it happen in your own living room. Look at a fire, the way that wood catches fire and burns till its gone. There is a transition point happening in that chemical reaction. A singularity where certain molecules break down and move around and recombine to be something new. Dense physical matter into light airy fluff.

If we can take that model of a singularity as a TRANSITION and use it for a black hole, that would be epiiiccc! I think that would be a major clue to how this works.

Finally, i hear you about animation. I know this one wasn't that smooth. I'm building towards a studio where i can work with this on friends in a more relaxed pace. It's hard to do right now though because there's so much going on.

I hear you though, and i am aware!
