Reviews for "The Awakening RPG"

One of the best flash games I have ever played! Hope you keep working on it.....I could dump some hours into this :)

RockLou responds:

Haha thank you! :)

Wow so I have some serious beef with this game. Before I get into it let me start off with the pros.

The battle style is extremely unique. I love the counter, magic, limit break, and dodge system. It gives the game a great originality. Makes battling extremely fun and keeps it from becoming too generic.

Secondly I enjoy the status system and how I'm able to gain stat points by using certain characters in battles. Again, incredibly original and I appreciate the thought that went into this game.

Now on to the cons of this game. I've come across a reoccurring bug where the game just stops responding. It happens sporadically and always in battles where all the characters kind of just, stand there and not do anything. I press every button on my computer and nothing happens which results in me, resetting the game.

Now, this is a newgrounds game so I would normally have no beef with this. Lets be honest, you have little to no budget to make these games. You are doing it for sheer thrills and the love of game design. You aren't working with the best software Playstaion, X-Box or high powered PC games are working with.

My issue is your auto save feature. When you play a video game you are hoping the game trains you to learn certain things. For example during your game you are trained to dodge at certain points. Each bad guy seems to make a reaction, gesture or movement before they attacks. The ultimate objective of this is to help you to dodge attacks. Now, I've struggled and tried to understand how the auto save mechanic works. At first I wasn't saving at all because I was noticing save icons come up after each battle. <<<<<<<<<Right there I'm being trained that after each successful battle the game auto saves. Why would I need to save after a big dungeon boss? The answer is - I shouldn't, if your training me that the game saves after battles. Needless to say I was disappointed after reaching the golden demon and getting my ass handed to me (i am playing it on hard) and having to lose about 35 minutes of progress and having to start significantly farther back. This is what ultimately ended my gaming experience for this game.

Great game but glitches + auto save feature = donezo for me.

RockLou responds:

Wow... okay. I'm glad you liked the parts that worked... As for the sporadic freezing of the game, I've pulled my hair out trying to figure out what's going on there. As I write this, I'm testing a few things to see if I can fix it.

The auto-save should work, and it always has for me. My suspicion is that some players are playing on browsers that has been set to not saving cookies. I have added a prompt whenever you start a new game, you need cookies enabled to save your games. Otherwise, whenever you reload the page, the save will disapear, and as you've noticed some players are forced to reload the page whenever the game freezes. It's a combination set for disaster...

Won two games in a row with the shell game, can't talk to Odessa for some reason to tell her that I did win 2 games in a row. Also, over time, if you do too many quests without doing certain quests (IE: The blacksmith quest) the waypoint will forever disappear. Even though you say hovering my mouse can cause lag if hovered in the game itself, i get less lag if I do that, and more lag if I hover OUTSIDE the game.

Good game so far otherwise.

RockLou responds:

Thanks for the review. I have no idea what may have caused the Odessa problem. That has never happened to me, I hope you won't be too annoyed that it remains unsolved.
And the mouse thing is weird too, but as long as you found a solution, I'm happy.

I can't enter the prison after the fight with the Golden Demon

RockLou responds:

The first time you enter the prison to talk to Darcon, the guard won't let you in. You have to talk to him and then exit the building to progress the story. Caleb even sais "Let's leave".
If that's not the part you're talking about, then it's a new bug I haven't heard of.

This is by far one of the best games i have played in a while, and when i saw the battle system i was like "finally something original!" also i loved the ability to customize the char. the graphics were decent as well, must of taken a long time to create by yourself, so over all its a great game. however...

I don't know if you know this or not but i came across a little bug, well idk if you would call it a bug per-say but its more of an exploit. when you go to train with Argas, and hit practice, you enter an endless battle where you can fight him endlessly. Now i know what your thinking, so what right? well it took me a minute to realize exactly how the stat system works and figured out that if you just let Argas hit you over and over again for no damage it will eventually max out the defense stat. i tested out my theory by leaving the battle play overnight while i slept and sure enough 5 hours later i gained 102 def points and like 5 luck. even though the max is 99 and all. you could do this basically for all the stats potentially if you have the time to kill. which would break the game offering it no challenge.

I suggest that you look into disabling the "stat level up" system while practicing with Aegas because being able to buy stats threw training is an awesome concept and would be pointless if you could train them for free like i discovered. I mean after all the intended purpose was just to help the players get used to the battle system was it not? Other then that, great game! Keep it up! If i find anything else while playing ill let you know about it =)
