nice

nice music sounds like the original

Turning-Japanese responds:

I'm glad you think I did it justice! Thanks for listening.

heres a recipe

take a good song from a good game, remix it, put it on newgrounds and what do you get? something cool. this isint perfect but pretty nice.

Turning-Japanese responds:

I'll take pretty nice any day! Thanks for your comment.

Good

The song is good, the Game was good (and still is) what could you want more?

I like the intro, really makes me think of some sort of medieval banquet and The Legend of Zelda for a reason.

Cons: Too short, nothing else.

Turning-Japanese responds:

LoZ stuff is pretty epic too. Thanks for listening!

Nostalgia is a wierd beast.

"I've always thought Nintendo has had some impressive musical scores behind a lot of their older games (even if they were on the corny side). I think without realizing it we learn to appreciate the music and it makes our memory of the game that much more vivid and pleasant. That's why this stuff is nostalgic." - Turning Japanese

You're exactly right there; games from the old days did have some truly fantastic music, and it's only because of people like you that the majority ever realise it. So, on that count, congratulations.

However, you were right twice up there. The 2nd time was to do with nostalgia... and, while you're absolutely right, nostalgia is a wierd beast. It only works for people who've actually played the game, or heard the song, etc. And I wasn't there for the Mario RPG. So this song doesn't quite trigger that deep sense of resonance that I'd get if I listened to a Super Metroid remix, or something like that. So, while I guess I missed the nostalgia, which would have catapulted this song over the top, I do still enjoy this sort of old-school remixed music, even if I weren't there.

So I'm giving you, and this is purely in terms of what I heard, not to do with faithfulness or reinterpretation, or any of that, an 8/10. I surely did enjoy this, but, as I said before, I didn't have the surge of memory that many others get. So, well done on making a remix of something I've never heard, and still getting me to enjoy it.

Turning-Japanese responds:

I'm glad you can appreciate it without having played the game. I guess all of us have different gaming backgrounds, but most of the people who freqent this site share my longing for the 'old days' when the market was quieter and 16-bit classics were all the rage. Thanks for your comment!

solid rendition, solid! loved super mario rpg and you do this song justice
good stuff, yeah!
