Reviews for "Icarus"

Honestly I liked the story. it almost made me want to watch the stars go by when I started to feel guilty about trying to reach the sun. also its REALLY pretty. the art in the sky would be an amazing screen saver (or still desktop picture). I'm aware this wasn't meant to be a "game" more like moving art work you get to control. but I could only give 2.5 because as much as it was pretty I wished there was more to this story. I want more from this artwork. like something is missing. it left me REALLY curious. maybe that was the point you kind of had in mind at the time of making it? idk. but since reviews are opinions please don't be mad >.>

Emrox responds:

Haha no problem. In fact, it's a real compliment – it's hard to a elicit a genuine feeling of mystery and curiosity in a game with so little text or instruction. I want to try something like this again, but with a greater sense of resolution.

Dear Emrox,

While I agree this is not a "game" in the conventional sense, the way NG categorize files this is definitely more "game" then "movie".

And you sir say you are bad at programming. But I can also say I see a lot of less deserving work out in the web, and put, if no one else, me in to shame.

Please keep up the great work, and this is absolutely "Neat"!!

For those "gamers" that cannot figure out the controls:
"Space" key to Start from menu
"Up" arrow key to fly up
"Down" arrow key to fly down
Hint: Try interaction with the bird & clouds

Emrox responds:

Glad to hear you liked it! I'm actually surprised to see how many people thought it was fun despite the absence of rules/goals.

It's good for what it is, but after a minute or two, there's kind of nothing to do and no reason to keep playing. It tells the very basic version of the story well enough, but that's about it. Not really a "game" so much as an interactive movie.

I was, of course, put off by your mocking games that don't do things the way you want to; obviously according to you games should all be simple action-fests staying far, far away from any attempt to make a point or say something about the world, since it's impossible to use games as a means of artistic expression...But I gave it a chance, only to find it was lacking...

Controls? Instructions?

Emrox responds:

Haha I never said that. In fact, I think games have a lot of potential for artistic expression.

myy problem with the game is that the water serves no purpose and we have no warning that we are too close to the sun, and we can barely see any star before burning either we want it or not.
