Reviews for "Letter Quest"

This is a great concept and I like it a lot. I voted for it on Steam Greenlight (how much will it cost?) and I have some feedback. The dictionary seemed pretty expansive-- often I was able to create words I didn't know existed-- but I typed in "yid" (which I guess could be offensive) and it was not accepted. Was this word left off on purpose? The word "porn" was accepted...

For thenoodge, maoi is not a word, however moai (mo'ai) is.

I think that the idea of an endless mode would be interesting, being entirely randomized with bosses making appearances, chests, merchants, etc. There would be rewards the further in you make it.
A time attack would also be possible, with you getting time for beating enemies and whatnot.

I was able to type "Miyagi," but nothing happened. I don't know what I was expecting.

Thank you for the detailed review, and thank you for voting on Greenlight! The game is currently available at www.letterquestgame.com in early access for $7.99, and we're still deciding on a final price for Steam.

"yid" was intentionally left off due to it being considered slang and offensive to some people. There are several hundred (some pretty obscure!) racial slang words we left out intentionally. "porn" was left in because it's not an offensive term, we view it the same as words like "sex", "testicle", etc. - they are real words that should hopefully not offend anyone. We also left out all known swear words.

Maoi is not really a word, it's an acronym for monoamine oxidase inhibitors, but I added it to the game's dictionary anyway. :)

Great ideas for the endless mode, it's something we're looking into, just trying to find the time (our company is just two people!).

As for "miyagi", I may add that as a bit of an easter egg. I already added the names of lots of Game of Thrones characters, and some other pop culture references just for fun.

EDIT: decided "miyagi" was too good to pass up, so added it to the dictionary. It will be in a future update. Here's proof! ;)

Excellent game. I checked out your website and it seems there is much more in the full game which is good. More RPG-like. A good variety of enemies and some humor. Speaking of humour, pretence or organise Does your game allow both "American" and "Rest-of-the-World" spellings? I haven't come across any chances to test it yet.

One serious improvement would be to animate the enemy sprites and backgrounds. Even just having the enemies sway back and forth and the candles flickering. Without animation the game appears to be lower quality than it really is.

I voted for this game on Steam as well. I think it is a well-thought-out game.

baconbanditgames responds:

Thank you kindly for the detailed review! There is a lot more to the full game, with different backgrounds and music tracks for each set of stages, and a lot more variety all around. There's also an expert mode that can be unlocked, to really challenge people with a great vocabulary.

We're a Canadian indie game dev team (just two of us!), so we included both/multiple spellings of every word that we know of. So yes, humor/humour, pretense/pretence, organize/organize - all of those work. :)

We would love to animate the enemies, just need to find the time and budget to do so! It's definitely on our wish list for the game!

Thank you so much for voting on Steam, we really appreciate it!

This is an awesome concept. Apparently it's been done already, but still fun. Not sure why, but it sometimes lags for a few seconds, but that's not a major issue. Good job.

Needs to be an andriod/iphone game. Hard to compete with the full version downloadable games you can get on a pc, but I would definitely play this on my phone.

baconbanditgames responds:

It already is an iPhone and Android game! We've put a ton of work into this demo and the PC and Mac versions to make sure that they really shine, and have tried to put in all of the features that make a desktop game a desktop game (we don't ever want to do a quick mobile port, we're not fans of that practice at all!). Hopefully you enjoy the game on your phone/tablet! :)

arse isn't a word?
