Reviews for "Lexi Meets a Cat"

Interesting choice to put here on newgrounds. Talk about coming from left field. Anywho, review time.

Pros: Educational! Always had an interest to pick up another language, this seems like a fairly good stepping stone towards that. Clickable definitions and context helps a lot. Story is short and simple, but that's a good thing when trying to teach a language (especially an asian one to non-asian speakers) since it won't distract.

Cons: Probably could have done with a short 'tutorial' about the grammar setup of the languages. For example, explaining that in spanish, the spelling of the ending of the verb changes to reflect the subject (I speak? You speak? He/she/it speaks? etc) Spanish was easiest for me to 'pick through' since I knew about the grammar; chinese and japanese however... didn't stand a chance. Lol. Some native speakers may also point out the rough translations, but when you have a completely different language with who knows how many sub-dialects (let's face it, some words just do not have a translation to begin with on top of that!), a rough translation is probably as close as you're going to get...

Other: All in all, pretty good. Even though it left me knowing just how little a chance I have at picking up an asian language, it does go a long way to teaching the basics and making a good attempt at teaching. Much better than a standard ol' textbook. Thumbs up, good job.

Thanks for the feedback! We're glad you can see the vision and hope you get a chance to check out our program (www.lexikeet.com) for all the nifty tutorials, vocabulary and grammar you're looking for :-)!

The content is kind of nice, with the language option, and I was curious, but the tale lacked something... maybe it was just to short, but I believe the objective of this flash was the three transltions.

But... I'm Spanish, and the Spanish-English translations are kind of wrong. The vocabulary is fine, but the grammar isn't. Maybe it's not noticeable, but if someone who knows Spanish reads this, they will find this average or poorly made. Some verbs are wrongly used, maybe they mean the same, but in a tale (usually, for childs) it's rare to read "ocúltate" instead of "escóndete". Also, the way the voice speaks is... weird, maybe because it's just artificial, but it would be nicer if it was human.

The drawings are nice, and it's fine if there's no music, but if I have to say whether I like it or not, I would say "more or less". I hope I didn't offend you.

We appreciate the detailed feedback. One of the most difficult challenges we have is providing as much of a universal Spanish as we can. I'm sure you know this already, but Spanish is spoken and written differently in different Latin American countries, not to mention Spain (!), and so it is a constant struggle to find ways to link it all together in a way native English speakers can learn it best to be best understood anywhere. Even our team of Spanish experts, each of whom comes from a different country, disagreed a fair bit on what grammar would work best in this book in different sections, and it sounds like we still have room for improvement, which is helpful feedback.

Thanks for taking the time to try the Spanish version and giving us your thoughts!

(By the way, the voice actor is a human, but we instructed her to speak as "neutral" Spanish as possible, which is probably why she sounds different than any regular accent...)

That's so refreshing and thoughtful for you to drop something so educational on a platform that is kinda, ur, polluted? Anyway, thank you and keep up your good work! :)

Very Creative

Thank you, sir! (love the profile pic...)

I think that people come to newgrounds to play games, not to read books. Also if we wanted to sign up for your website, we would do it at the beginning. Other than that its a good story.

lexikeet responds:

Yep, gaming is why we come to Newgrounds, too :-). Thanks for the review and keeping an open mind!
