Reviews for "Hanoka"

Well. This is...Interesting. I wouldn't quite say "Great", although it wasn't lacking for what it is, there are...Flaws.

Firstly; the game-play. Extreme grinding is all I felt that the progress of the game was. I either shot three or four little fish, a medium fish or a massive fish that took up my entire screen, all of which could kill me in (More or less) one hit. I spent ten to fifteen minutes kiting this massive fish, plummeting arrow after arrow into him, only to slip up eventually and die. Well, whatever. I grinded on the little fishies for a good twenty minutes or so, got some "EXP", and some skills.

Yet, by then, I was bored!

Now, the music/sound; - Terrible. The music wasn't BAD, per se, yet the sounds were the most annoying I've ever heard. I'm not the hugest fan of "EEE-YEEKAI" and "EYYYYYAAA" screamed at me every ten seconds.

Also, why are only darker skinned people shown? I feel that this game implies that darker people are backwards in technology, obviously only having a little bow. I find this quite racist, and you should include an option for a white character, to show equality. I kept thinking that, behind the scenes, there were a few bourgeois and privileged men, smoking cigars and drinking fine spirits while talking about those "Backwards barbarians". Great job at causing an even larger rift in equality!

However, for being made in 48hours, the game isn't bad. I mean, it isn't at all. I'd give it a 3.5/5.

Guy-Unger responds:

oh yea definitly, i hope that with this game i can finally teach those underdeveloped dark skinned people where they really stand in this world! That's why i made a game that tries to convince a feeling of ancient wisdom where the hero is a dark skinned female who saves the village.

I don't play games as often as i used too but, this one reminds me of why i should play more games.

Guy-Unger responds:

yea man, you should.. hahah
thanks!! ^^

I was superficially reminded of FreeAsANerd's excellent game "Fisher Diver" from 2011 (which I highly recommend looking up if you're not familiar with it). I thought the audio of this game was exceptional. I think the concept is excellent, and that it merits potentially even expanding on it further. Really good for the time allotted.

Guy-Unger responds:

cool! hadent played that. beautiful game!

Awesome game, took me about 3 minutes to figure out "what the heck am I doing".

I went triple shot/ auto fire build and because of that, I lured the last 2 spirits above water so I could fight them at the same time. Since the last spirit is much larger to the very tiny 3rd spirit, I actually killed the last one first ... and the game immediately put me to the end-game screen despite the 3rd spirit still being alive.

Also the 3rd spirit loves flying off the screen (left/right sides) which is really annoying (unless you intended for that to happen).

While I do not want to be too critical (since you did this under 48 hours), a bit of grinding is involved (could be good for some, turnoff for others); particularly for the first part of the game until you have leveled about 4-5 times. It is quite difficult to deal with anything without a decent amount of points into multi-arrow or fast-shooting.

I never play such game before.... the concept on how to attack and such thing is so creative!
I really enjoy it all, and when you had enough upgrade... ah man that was fun!

The feeling of entering the water and about to kill a gigantic sea monster is epic and adrenaline pumping, especially since I had a bit of paranoid with gigantic sea monster >_<
This game remind me of Shadow of Colossus, which is all nice.

The upgrade is all good, in fact, it was GOOD.
I just need 5 minute alone to figure out the attack system hahaha

Only one problem, maybe just me or something.
When I close the game and open it at another time, there is no save game and I need to go back all over even before I had finish the game.
Not like I don't wanna play from the beginning, but if its really glitch, I hope it can be fixed!
Not everyone have all that time to play for hours and hours, some play it little by little when they have time. And no save game mean problem for us TT__TT
