It seems to be a real value effort!

Which I bet it is and the game goes a long way to achieving it! needs a few bugs fixed to control the squirrel more elegantly and subtlely with simpiler key-buttons(the up and down buttons we're hard to function) other than that a great original game!

devnull responds:

A value effort? That sounds like a bad thing... like budget.

I know what you mean about the Up button. Its a bit weird because your jump height is based on the wire's state. Not too easy to fix, but I might give it a shot. The down button? The down button isn't supposed to do anything... haha.

Good work for 2 days!

As a two day piece of work, I will not give this any critizism. But as a submission to newgrounds I will. This has some potential to be alot funner and interesting with just a few minor adjustments.

Graphics 2: No actual animation anywhere on this with the exception of the wires. A little more work could render a few different animation each for the squirrel and the birds (walking, small attack animations for the squirrel, pain for the birds, etc.).

Style 7: Basing this mostly off of the physics for the wire. I'm sure that was hard to do in the time alloted to you and you pulled it off well.

Sound 0: No sound at all? Did this comp you enter have a certain allowed file size... as the file is very small at 13kb.. but because of that for not too much more you could insert music and sound effects (the birds screaming out in surprise/pain? =D).

Violence 0: The birds are getting knocked off a wire, but I'm sure they just fly off... lets see that squirrel do something permanent to em for having the gall to invade the squirrel's turf.

Interactivity 7: Game plays great and does what it was meant to do. Only suggestions I can make are to make it a lil faster and possibly add some type of power ups.. (chuck a nut at em, break out a flamethrower etc).

Humor 0: No jokes here... I do have one piece of advise tho.. I'm surprised you didn't think of it... why are these birds not pooping? =) Just take em to Taco Bell, that'll fix em.

Overall 4

devnull responds:

Thanks for the long review. I might make an update soon with some changes.

Graphics: Actually there is some animation in there. The birds open and close there mouths and flap their wings (look closely). For the squirrel, there is both a running animation, a shimmying animation, and an idle animation if you stand still (which you wouldn't have noticed. You might not have been able to see these if you are running in too high a resolution.

Style: thanks
Sound: When you're programming on a deadline, you deal with the details last. I would have liked to get some sounds in there, but it was a low priority.

Violence: I put the birds in there during the last hour. I was rushing like mad. The simple rotation tween was quick and effective. I would have loved to code in a bunch of gory death sequences.

Interactivity: I was actually planning on the game having quite a bit more to it. Dogs were going to jump up at you, and the wires were going to periodically be flooded with electricity. Again, I didn't have time.

Humour: heh, yeah. I'm not too into the poop jokes.

This was great!

especially considering you did this in 2 days...

Nice

This is like the wires in Mario Sunshine. Neat idea for a game, and well executed.
