Can't rate very high on the gameplay but for what it is, it is great: mostly, about the story and the theme of it.
I experimented with the endings and found out a neat touch about the 'go home/submit score' point. The closest to a good ending to this game I found is 5 years ; long enough that the character has amassed fame and got himself out of poverty, short enough that he still has his connections to his family and still benefit from the buzz of his rise, allowing him to share it with them.
Getting back too early means he doesn't bring back much more to his family than love (which is enough for them but may feel hollow to him as he has failed to reach his potential and get his family out of poverty) and getting back too late means he has no one to share his success with (the buzz from his rise has long vanished and his long departure burnt the bridges with his family).
Extremely simplistic but very effective in its execution.
