Reviews for "Shooting in the Dark"

At first glance one may think this game a master work of a brilliant fatalist attempting to illustrate how all our actions are predetermined.... then it hits you... ms paint graphics, bugs everywhere, super short game length. It isn't that the author is a philosophical genius, it's that he's lazy and couldn't be bothered to and other options or spend more than the bare minimum amount of time on his game. You quickly write a half assed review not wanting to spend any more time on it than the author did on the game but still wanting to warn others to stay away. You leave hoping the author will try harder next time.

This game is broken as fuck. I don't even care about the story, if I can't operate within this point and click adventure then why should I even play it? I'll never know how this got front page.

Where are the choices? Every other button is a dud! If they actually worked, this game would've been much better (for instance, I wanted to backtrack because I hadn't found the code but I couldn't, how was I supposed to finish then?). At least the graphics were nice; I won't give it a zero since they are valuable.
While I love art games, this one completely defeated its purpose... or was it the other way around and the point behind all is "You NEVER had a choice?", I doubt so, though.

The game had a lot of railroading. Many good games make good use of this, but in this game the inability to do things that seem perfectly logical is frustrating. In addition, for a game in which choice is the main theme, there is hardly any choice other than not playing. There is also a major bug with the key setting the player back, forcing them to replay parts. Finally, the user interface could use some work. For example, when looking at the safe for the first time, i didn't know the code, but was unable to leave the interface, thus requiring me to restart the game.
The game is pretty bad, but there's something interesting here. With a lot of work this could be a very interesting and immersive piece, though as it is now, it is not worth playing.

Problems with this game:

1. Music loops over itself contantley, it's extremely annoying
2. Game resets itself endlessly, once you pick up the key, every morning is the same, you walk upstairs, go back down and BAM you're back to Happy again?
3. It's as linear as games come, yet it's touted in the beginning of being about choices?
4. Why do you even have some of the things clickable if they serve no purpose? why do I need to be told "That is dad's TV"? That's great, I'm proud for dad.
5. Pick up the key, go upstairs "This door is locked" ...that makes sense, since I have the key and all
6. The motion is extremely slow, I have to wait 10 seconds for him to walk across the room, that's not useful information, I don't need to see him do that.
7. It's extremely repetitive. He skips school, gets in trouble, plays games, repeat...boring.
8. I don't think this game was tested before uploading, the way the speech bubbles interact with the rest of the game is very non-user friendly. It's a nightmare at some points.
