Reviews for "Down the Brain"

Very interesting concept and way to portray slipping into depression. I especially like the beginning quote: "you set out to explore your own mind". It gets a bit repetitive after a while though, maybe that's the message? That depression is overwhelming and you can't see an end to it?

Metalcan responds:

Thanks! Perhaps you're right. :)

Decent game, but needs a bit more depth. More enemies that do different things, maybe a boss stage to end it around level 50? Powerups were nice, but were one of 2 things, gain health or damage. Would have been nice to see some effects like berserk etc. All in all a pretty solid game for the time frame you made it in.

Metalcan responds:

Yeah I wanted to make different spells and stuff, but ran out of time. Thanks.

Interesting game. I liked the movement system where when you move a square all the enemies on the screen also move a square. I reached floor -75 before starting this review, since I'm not too sure if there's an actually ending or not. I reached a point where I was extremely over powered as well with 900 anger. Pretty nice game, very depressing - Very unorthodox since your goal in the game is to become MORE depressed and angry rather than happier. I recommend adding extra enemies or bosses to keep the game fresh, or at least making the enemies stronger as they seem to have a uniform strength. The eerie music went along nice so that's a plus point.

Metalcan responds:

There is indeed an ending to the madness. We would have added more stuff, but ran out of time. Thanks for your comments.

I love the nostalgic and smooth feel. Simple mechanics add to a very solid experience.
P.S. the stat boosts are a little too big.

Metalcan responds:

Thanks, yeah we didn't even have time to test it, so the stats are a bit wacky,

For all the time that didn't go into this game, congrats for making an enjoyable mindless romp smashing teddy bears with teen angst.

Metalcan responds:

Thank you!
