Reviews for "Epic Battle Fantasy 4"

TO MANY MEDALS

Like the game, the ending was a little disappointing

I think my favorite part of this whole game is how there is "Liquid Ice" and "Solid Water" and how they're both "very rare."

i played and i won the game and i allways knew that there is only ONE game that would remove "epic battle fantasy 3" from my no.1 spot of favourite game in newgrounds and its EPIC BATTLE FANTASY4 . everything is better and more fun! i had a shit ton of fun in the game.....until the end.
this is my only problem . the ending was a huge let down . i mean after the end cutscene just throwing me back to the menu? WTF is this shit. EPF3 had a waaaaaaaaaaaay better ending where you could replay the game with your current skills & items. why isnt it here? that wouldve been soo much awesome. that is the only thing that i didnt like in this game and it makes me really sad since the rest is 100% perfect. but oh well.

First of all, amazing game. You probably know why, so I won't talk about all the awesome stuff. If the creator is reading this, I can tell him that at the end I explain how I wanted to give him money, but it just didn't work out.

Straight to the criticisms instead (note that it still gets 5 stars):
1. Too long. Yes, hard to believe, but it is too long. 20 hours to get to the final boss. It definitely felt grindy towards the end - despite the fact that you continued adding new gear, enemies and areas right up until the end. Just too much time doing basically the same thing. You should have released a shorter game earlier, or spent time on enhancing gameplay rather than making it go longer.

2. Basically all battles from the early-mid game up until the second last could be beaten by the same technique (at least on the normal difficulty). Hence, the feeling of doing the same thing over and over again, and the sensation of grinding.

3. The addition of the fourth player feels kind of artificial, since he/she basically disappears from gameplay when he/she goes into backup. I found it simplest to give all the abilities/character bonuses to the two girls and Matt, and almost never used Lance. You should have spent more time re-jigging the game to let you use four players at the same time, or have the backup player actually DO SOMETHING as backup, instead of making the game last longer.

4. Interface could be a bit slicker. For example, the division of attacks during battle between "skills" and "specials" tabs seems completely arbitrary. For example, it makes no sense to have some healing skills found under "skills" and some under "specials". Why not have an "attack" tab and "magic" tab instead, or divide them up by some functional characteristic?

5. Game got laggy in battles towards the end. This despite the fact that I'm running it on an i7. The final boss battle was especially bad...

6. The final boss battle is LONG. The lag mentioned above made it intolerable for me (even after turning all detail down). I made it almost to the end of the second round (out of 7, with no way to save your progress!), and then I just closed the game and decided to write the review that I intended to leave until after I finished the game. I just couldn't take it anymore. I don't think I'll ever bring myself to go back and finish it, which is a real shame. I love the cute-but-sorta-serious story and would love to see how you end it, but I just can't bring myself to beat my head against the wall to the extent necessary.

All in all, an awesome game. I hope you earn some decent amount of money through the additional content you're offering, and that you resist the temptation to make EBF5 one of these semi-multi-player "freemium" games - although I couldn't blame you if you did.

BTW, I probably would have bought the extra content (to reward you, not to actually use it in game), but at the moment I'm so frustrated with the game I can't bring myself to go back.

...

Actually I just tried to buy the extras... (a) it didn't transfer my saved game to Kongregate, and (b) Kong wants me to buy their credits from them before I can pay them to you which is a hassle...and to make it worse, there isn't an option to buy the 75 credits you are asking, there is only options to buy 50 or 110 at a time. So no money for you. Sorry.

I agree...
