good concept, but your ship is to big an slow for this, make it a tad smaller and 20% faster. and it would be perfect.

Great twist to the classic vertical space shooter.
It would go a long way to have some kind of tutorial or even a "how to play" page (something to show examples of enemies, things to avoid, and power-ups) that you can get to through the main menu (you do show controls on the main menu, so that's good); there where a number of times I ran into things that would hurt me when I thought they where pickups. And there isn't much to indicate the difference.
