Reviews for "Sift Renegade 3 Defiance"

AWESOME!!!!!

found a guy getting attacked, went over the buildings, killed a few more, then the screen stopped scrolling.
found a type right away.
it was kinda fun until i got stuck right away, but if the story really stayed as bland as others noted, it also would've been boring anyways.

Ehh, I can definitely see that this game is well-liked, and I'm a bit hestitant to post a review that doesn't enthuse about how amazing this game was. Honestly, there were a lot of things that were not good.

Straight off the bat, the control scheme was bad. Especially for a fast-paced brawler. I would have considered making an alternative control scheme with WASD. The position of your hands when you use the arrow keys and X is very awkward and uncomfortable, and it also makes it a bit difficult to reach up to the 1, 2, 3, and 4 keys.

The combat system was really bad and confusing. Essentially, it involved spamming the X key until your opponent was dead. One of the weirdest things was that sometimes you didn't even do any damage. You would hit the X key over and over and it wouldn't do a thing. Also, sometimes the enemies just wouldn't die until you switched your weapon. You would do damage, but they would not die. Also, sometimes you would be hit immediately as soon as you recovered from the ground, leaving you no opportunity to hit the enemy.

The upgrade system was not very good at all. Okay, so I'm upgrading my weapon, but what exactly am I upgrading? Attack speed? Attack damage? And how exactly does upgrading a Naginata differentiate from upgrading the Kama Blades? They basically do the same thing. I highly suggest that you make one weapon unique from another weapon. I mean, the Kama Blades and the Iron Fists were essentially the same thing.

Selecting a level was difficult at first, because you couldn't tell which level to pick. Did I just do Defiance or The Rise? And also, when I say "Continue," I mean, "Come on, let's continue the game," not, "I want to go back to a level." Level Select and Continue should be two completely different things.

Now let's get to the brawler itself. For a brawler, this was so painfully straight-forward it hurts. You go in, you beat some people up, and if you die you have to restart. I mean, there's no power-ups? There's no way to regenerate your health? There's no way to do special abilities? The brawler felt like the bare minimum for a brawler, probably because you spent far more effort into art and animation than the actual game itself.

I'll admit, the storyline didn't really reel me in at all, probably because I had never played any of the previous games. When you're making a flash game, you want to add a prologue so new players who don't want to have to go all the way back to the first game know what's going on. Either way, the storyline was just really bland and confusing.

Overall, the game is just something that looks really good, but is not worth playing. You never really brought anything new to the table in terms of brawlers. Even the art has already been done before. In fact, most brawlers use stick people as characters. There was nothing redeeming about this game, and I hate to tear apart a game that everyone seems to like, but this did not catch my attention at all.

Wonderful. Sift and Madness Games are the best games 4 ever.

this game is amazing 5/5
