Reviews for "Mad Princess"

It is a great game, but it would be more fun if we could set up the board before the wave starts. I also think it is BS you do not get all your weapons for the last stage. Otherwise great idea.

What an awesome premise!
I think what would add to the game, would be some voiceover or speech bubbles on the heroes saying heroic things like "I'll save you, princess!", or something like that. (just to make clear the they're not out there to get her but to rescue her).

Not Bad
History:the History is A Parody to the Tipical Videogames Historys Aka The Princess Is Captured By a Evil Demon In His Castle But the Princess Is Revealed to Have A Mental Sickness In My Opinion Sounds little Cliche The History
Gameplay:Too Bad most of Levels Are More like A Tutorial some are hard and some are pretty easy
Music: Pretty good whit the tone of Game My Fav is when you Lose A Level

Great game. I love the twist you put to the damsel in distress. That in itself made me want to play and beat the game regardless of the game play.

Story: 3.00/5.00
The concept is great, as I mentioned before, but the story telling itself could use a little work. I understand that you were just testing this sort of game out though, so it's forgivable, but if you have time, make the next one better!

Graphics: 4.00/5.00
I'm not a huge fan of pixel art so that's why I'm not giving you a perfect 5, but as far as pixels go, it's great and everything is well made.

Gameplay: 3.50/5.00

Down to the core issue then. The game is too fast paced. Even the tutorial, which is generally slow, is too fast. Your tossed into the fray almost immediately, and while there is no penalty for losing a round, allowing you to restart as many times as you want, it's a little inconvenient. Now I'm not saying the sense of urgency is bad. It kept me on my toes, in fact, but you're tossed too suddenly into the wave. Perhaps if there's a countdown of five to ten seconds that allows you to place your traps before the enemies hurry in it would improve the game. It would allow better planning and leave you to your devices while the horde of unsuspecting heroes comes after you.

The diversity of enemies and traps was limited, but that again is forgivable as you've mentioned it's your first time stepping out of your comfort zone.

Level design was fairly limited as well. The only things that really varied were the slope lengths. The limited trap selection did up the difficulty level though so that was a nice touch.

Overall Score: 3.50/5.00

AdventureIslands responds:

The story was originally supposed to be much deeper and about how she even got her blood powers and lost her mind in the first place, but I had to cut lots of originally planned stuff to get the game done for LD in time. But I might explore the original story in some kind of prequel game.

You are right about the quick pace, next time I might add a time counter for the waves and a button to summon enemies early if you have finished setting up defenses.

This is what Ludum Dare games often are, good bases to start building more refined and polished games on.

Promising, and interesting, but with a few design flaws. The fact that it was so easy to destroy previously-set traps by clicking too close to them was maddening. In later levels, it could be used as a form of strategy, but I felt it clumsy either way, especially if that was intentional. Music and sound design also left a little to be desired; I didn't feel like what I was hearing meshed with what I was playing, though I'm not certain what would have been a more appropriate feel.
However, the character design was solid and the overall concept worked. I really enjoyed figuring out how each of the different traps would work in given situations. A solid effort, and fun for about 30 minutes, but I'd love to see something more polished in a similar vein. Given that the ending seemed to allow for a second game, I hope you'll take that to heart :)
