Reviews for "Ghost Light Part 1"

nice but i keep dying

Comacolors responds:

:( , hard mode is pretty punishing. You could try easy mode if you're not enjoying the difficulty.

Hope that helps.

It's good but there are a few things I would change I only played on hard so I don't know if it's different on easy or not but here they are:
First would be the spikes are very annoying I mean it would be nice for a injury pause after you get hit so you don't loose all your life on the one trap you don't see.
Second would be the jump should be up and not z but that's just my personal feelings.
Third would be explaining the rules early on, like you must kill all monsters on the level before you go.
But otherwise it's good!

Comacolors responds:

Thank you for the critique.

I feel like the lack of invincibility frames is an important part of the gameplay in this series, so part two and the lost levels will also be like this, but it does seem to be really frustrating for some players, so I'll incorporate invincibility frames in the games that come after this series.

With the controls I am working on a way to allow the player to set the jump key to up or z depending on their preference, I'll try to offer alternative control schemes in my future games.

When it comes to rules I did my best to set the game up in such a way that people wouldn't have to sit through a tutorial to play. I wanted the game play to be self explanatory, but judging by the comments my conveyance was hit and miss. I'll try to do better in future games.

Thanks again for the input.

i honestly like this game and believe that for a start it is pretty good for where it is at. More powers and a few puzzles could make this a little more interesting though.

Comacolors responds:

Thank you kindly for feedback.

This game is definitely pretty minimalist, no denying that. My shorter games will always be fairly simple, because I feel like making the player master a lot of controls and mechanics they'll only have a few opportunities to use isn't really fair, but my longer games will definitely have more in the powers and puzzled departments.

Pretty decent - liked the feel of it, music was good (although it looped a bit quickly) and it played well on the whole. However it was a bit annoying that you seemed to take a ridiculous amount of damage if you touch spikes or whatever for more than a split second, and jumping physics are a bit odd. Good overall though.

Comacolors responds:

I see where you're coming from with the music, I had to be careful about length because of file size restrictions, but I could have gotten away with longer music for the levels and boss fights for sure. The level and boss music in part two will be longer.

As for the damage, I had set it up like that hoping it would counterbalance the player's ability to observe all enemies and hazards before they have to interact with them. Invincibility frames are usually there to allow the player to recover after they are taken off guard by something, since one of my goals with this was to make a game where nothing could catch the player off guard I decided to keep invincibility frames to a bare minimum. I hope this didn't severely hurt your experience.

Thank you taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.

MUTE BUTTON! ALWAYS MAKE A MUTE BUTTON!

Comacolors responds:

Next game will have volume controls, this was a serious oversight on my part. Won't happen again.

Thank you for the input.
