Reviews for "The Hut in Ayre Forest"

Finally, a Game Jam submission worthy of my time.

I usually ignore Game Jam submissions for a multitude for reasons, but this one I just had to check out. Plus, it's nice to see Hyptosis improve on his animation unlike some people. With that out of the way...

Graphics: Hyptosis' art is great as always with nice colors, clever usage of texture, thoughtful composition, and solid construction. And the animation, while not up to par with Jake Hollander or SunnyGOES, is decent enough to get the point across. In other words, I think people should learn from him and the rest of ConceptArt.org's top tier artists.
Music: Trois, the music you made for this was both well-composed and fit perfectly. Plus, I also like the sparse usage of sound effects considering that free sounds aren't easy to come by.
Content: While it not be the ideal Flash game, but the overall product is still great none-the-less. The engine is solid, the button setup is well-done, and the combat is decent. Yet the controls could be a bit tighter, and the enemy placement could have been better planned. Here's hoping that Squidly puts his game engine to great use in future works.

The Good:
-Original
-Great graphics
-Excellent music
-Decent plot
-Mostly well-coded

The Not-so-good:
-Could have used tighter controls
-The cave segment can be confusing to figure out.
-The enemy placement could have been planned out better.

Overall: Here's a ten from me. (5/5)

Are people seriously calling this glitchy and insulting the programmer because they're too lazy to actually experiment with it? Just play the freaking game. In the old days, there wasn't any hand holding. It was "it's dangerous to go alone, take this" and that was it. This game is super easy and simple. The only option available when you can't get past the wolf is to go back and try it as an adult again to see if something's different. You people are so lazy that you hit a wall and just stop to cry about it and aren't even willing to try the one option available to you. It's not hard.

I thought this game was beautiful. I don't understand why there is so much hate in the comments. I didnt have any issues, the game seemed a little creepy at first... but i thought it was nice how there was a happy ending. I especially liked how it kinda had a story within the story (storyception, right?) with how he was struggling through his childhood life on his path towards adulthood. I think you all did a great job for just 36 hours to work on it. +Respect

as a "casual" musician by my own i adore the music - so big big credits 4 him - so i can't play cause of the mentioned bug, with freezing at the left corner after slayed down by midgeds or whatever ;) more time 2 enjoying the tune - i use chrome. 64bit ultimate w7. latest flashplayer. but 4 only 36 hours of work - great, great effort!

Troisnyx responds:

You freeze after you die? I am using the exact same specs as you (Chrome, 64-bit, Windows 7) and I have not come across any glitches thus far-- I guess, because I never died... so I can't say. I'll have the dev team look into it, at any rate.

By the way, I'm the musician, and I'm a 'she'. I'm honoured that you like the music so much. Thanks for the review.
