Even without a patch I give this game five stars!
The graphics are perfect for a simple hack and slash the voice acting while cliche is top-notch and really does fit into the theme (Was anyone else reminded of the Footman's voice from Warcraft II whenever the Knight spoke?) and the music made me feel as though I was playing a Medieval/Fantasy Version of Heavy Metal.
The controls are easy though sometimes sticky especially when turning and attacking.
The method that worked for me was to stand between the girl and the torch and use the following moves at these specific times:
Single enemies - Shield Bash
Enemy chain - Sword
Enemies from both directions: Shield Bash, Throw Sword, Shield Bash
Enemy Chain + lone enemy: Sword and Sword (Your shield bash and sword throw are too slow!)
Overall I didn't have too much difficulty with the game and the lag was present and negligible, it's about knowing what to use when and finding a method that works for you.
The only real problem I had with the game was getting it to load, patience is a virtue though just give it a bit or update your Flash Player. :)
Attacks:
Sword: Fastest
Shield: Slowest
Sword Throw: Fast/Ranged
