Reviews for "Quietus II"

it lags at level 9, cant see what i'm doing, it responses a few seconds later but then i'm already dead.. because i cant see where i jump, i'd really like to finish this game, maybe you could fix it, because it is very awesome :)! I like these kind op simple yet challenging platformer games!

Thanks anyway, it was fun playing till level 9. Bye

Maybe try dimming the lights? That button on Newgrounds that gets rid of the ads--it should hopefully speed up.

so hard...but so addicting...

Well I'm going to say this off the bat. I ADORED the music I don' t know why I just though ti twas beautiful. I also loved the gameplay and enjoyed that as well however there are a couple things I was disappointed in.

1. Level 35. Yes that's it this specific level was enough to make me almost stop playing and I felt it was a lot harder then the final level. The reason I felt this way was just how you made it unusually hard to do. For one there's a spinning ball above you and one below you which is pretty simple to deal with alone however since you decided to put spikes on EITHER side of the wall while jumping the game tedious and extremely frustrating. Every time I tried to jump on the green thing I'd always get shot into a wall. Even more annoying is the fact that once you get to the top you have to move to your right while also jumping while at the bottom. This took me what I felt was an hour of work I didn't need to do. PLEASE either remove one of the spiked sides or make it easier in some manner.

I was okay with the spikes in the other level being where you drop because it's not a pressure and react thing you just drop and do your best to get in the middle which is much easier but trying to direct where you jump, jump while the thing is making you auto bounce then move right it was just awful and the metal maces just made it almost unbearable.\

(Spoiler)
2. The second thing I was disappointed in was the ending. It was so simplistic I just expected something better then what was in store. Two simple pictures. Next time maybe a bit more text or a couple more pictures but the ending just didn't cut it for me. The angel thing was nice, just not enough.

This red fountain (jump pad) is very randomly active, you can at best use it if you are next to it not on it. Controls are good.
Still lacking something.

Bouncing between spikes while avoiding two spinning spike balls... with these controls? Nope. I'm sorry, but there's a difference between difficult and absurd, and this game did the second far too many times. For example: the level where two sets of three lava monsters shoot up, and the treasure chest is up top. The level itself would only be hard because you require the player to jump perfectly because of the ceiling, but by sectioning off the treasure chest the way you did, you ensured there would be at least 15-20 seconds between every attempt, turning an otherwise meh difficulty level into a test of my patience. The controls are too twitchy for a lot of the crap you ask for in these levels, and the lag that started happening didn't help either. I took steps to make sure it wasn't just me, and nope, still lagging, especially on levels with a lot more lava and such. But even assuming lag wasn't there making me have a 10 percent chance my button press won't be registered and I'll die, the other stuff is just too annoying. I love platformers, and I've liked other games of yours, but this one wasn't enjoyable. It didn't even give me satisfaction to beat the levels because they were just so frustrating that I rarely felt like it was my fault if the level took me a long time, instead always noting a couple of design flaws that made the level arbitrarily more difficult. The art, music and general aesthetic were nice, though the art conflicted with the pixel level precision required for some parts. This is one of the few difficult platformers where I've stepped back and said "I am not enjoying myself in any way while playing this, and beating levels feels hollow instead of triumphant... I'm going to stop." And then proceeded not to play it anymore.

TL;DR: Game controls are twitchy, art and music are nice though art conflicts with gameplay, difficulty seems arbitrarily high via poor design. Workings of a great game trapped in an unenjoyable one.

On the plus side, your other work, out of what I've played thus far, is good and enjoyable enough to provide the perfect transition as I leave this game behind.
