Reviews for "Aeon Defense"

Excellent!

lol this game is great and i love playing dota

As an avid DotA fan, I felt compelled to check this game out. However, I have mixed feelings about this game.

On one hand, it does have the feel of DotA/AoS about it, with the familiar 3-lane setup, and constant back-and-forth flow of creeps. So in that respect, it was a good homage to this game's inspirations.

However, the execution was somewhat... poor.

The game felt incredibly slow paced, compared to the normally fast-paced DotA/AoS. The game just dragged on and on, due to advancing being rather slow. It didn't help that the heroes didn't move particularly fast, so navigating from one lane to another was pitifully slow, especially considering the only way to change lanes was to walk all the way back to base. Even the common staples of DotA, such as boots or town portals, were notably absent, making backtracking a rather painfully slow endeavor.

In addition, things such as Duels and Undead King seemed poorly executed. Undead King basically would halt the middle lane to a dead stop for a few minutes, needlessly lengthening the game. Having a neutral super-boss isn't a bad thing, but they usually tend to be optional for the very reason of not prolonging an already long game. The duels are much the same. Randomly getting whisked away into a duel tends to be rather inconvenient, and I can't really see the point of it. The only barracks I lost in a game happened specifically because a random duel pulled me away so I couldn't defend. It just made me wonder, what was the point?

In addition, the item system was a bit... basic. The items just didn't feel very diverse, since most of them were just stat boosts. The idea of cheap and expensive item shops isn't a bad one, though I found myself wishing items could be combined or upgraded as was the case with DotA. Oh well.

The last issue is minor, but I'll still mention it. I found Towers to take a bit too long to kill, personally. Even at a high level, with expensive items in every slot, I found that it took a few minutes to bring down a tower, even if you have a sizable wave of creeps with you. Yes, they should be strong, but it doesn't seem to scale well late game, especially considering they couldn't really kill me either.

However, I'm well aware that it's probably pretty difficult to try to replicate DotA in a flash game, especially considering that several years and versions have been put into perfecting DotA, while this had significantly less time and testing to it. For what it's worth, it is a decent game, but being so slow paced saps the fun factor of it a bit. However, it is a good homage to DotA-style games, but it just has plenty of room for improvement.

Spent 40 min to beat the game on casual mode and didnt get the medal :(

I really just did not care for the control's much. Maybe it's simply because I'm playing without a proper mouse. I liked the graphics though and the different heroe's you could play as.
