Reviews for "Macrocosm"

Haha, I loved it. It was very appropriate for the times, in my opinion (considering the still fairly recent news of the Higgs Boson). I notice that you've improved quite a bit in your anatomical construction. The angles and proportions of the character remained fairly consistant. It's also good that you're still pushing forward with 3D animation, as well.

Still though, something seemed to be missing from this, and I can't quite put my thumb on it. Perhaps, I think, it's that your message and overall plot aren't as clear as with past movies. I'll admit, I was confused at times as to what was supposed to be going on.

Don't let that bug you much, it's still a very strong entry for the competition, and test-object will have his work cut out for him this time around.

Pahgawk responds:

Well, I think my creativity's pretty much spent these days, and I had to force myself to work on this one. Knowing test-object, I don't think I'll get through this round, but I think that it might be a good thing. I think I'll be able to make better movies after taking a break.

You yourself constantly admit that there are plot holes, so I won't point them out, aside from the obvious, if he just created the world, then what world was he living in?

And I can see why you nitpicked on animation. While the computer scenes were amazing, your cartoon animation was a bit rough. Maybe it was my computer though.

But dont think of this as a big nitpick of your work. It's a standard you've set for yourself, and by god have you made yourself one high standard. A standard of excellence and phenomenal stories. A standard of beautiful animation to carry out these stories. A standard that you have surely carried through with in this animation.

Bravo Pahgawk, and I expect to see you in the next round of NATA. If you don't then your opponent must be God on Earth.

Pahgawk responds:

Thanks :)
I see what you did there with that last sentence. Very nice!
...also I guess I just imagined that, in this strange reality I've made, the "world particle" is like a component of particles, sort of like how when we collide particles in real life, they're there before, but we're only just discovering them. Except I'm not actually sure how it works, and if the new particles we find are little parts that make up the other particles we know of, or if the act of smashing them apart creates the new ones, so I guess I shouldn't be talking until I do a bit more research. It all goes over my head anyway, though.

Pahgawk you modest master of animation! Every piece i watch from you impresses me more and more and this was no exception. Yes, the frame by frame was a little lacking but you still had some great transitions, an interesting use of colors (i liked the yellow glows) and some inspiring 3d effects. How did you do those rotating wire frames? Very nice work on that. I think you're story telling could do with a bit of work but this is NATA so of course you're rushed and i can't complain too much because this one certainly gave me chills. Fortunately i was familiar with the concept you were putting across having read a great short story about it here (remove the spaces):
http://everything2.com/title/I+don%25 27t+know%252C+Timmy%252C+being+God+is +a+big+responsibility
so despite not being wowed by the originality of the idea i was certainly wowed by the artistry with which you conveyed it. Those wonderful shots when the scientist realizes that perhaps he is just one of an infinite loop and that long zoom from world to world. Of course the universe would have to be part of the system too but i suppose that zooms a bit big even for you.
I like that you make your own music and it's alway fitting but i think you should try something with sound effects and voice acting etc. Only because having just music gives the animations a sort of "music-video" feel that is slightly off putting. Also you've got a fun and unique art style but everyone always seems to be pulling the same dismayed expressions. I'm being picky of course and overall i really did enjoy this animation a lot. Good work with this, good luck with nata, and keep at it! Sorry to hear about your website.

Pahgawk responds:

Ahh yes, I remember reading that story! It was definitely inspiration for this.

Also I was sort of thinking that maybe the "world particle" was just a component of a larger particle, so it was there all along, but then that raises the question of why all the worlds shut off when he turned off just one of the practically endless others. It's definitely a plot hole I didn't think through enough.

you consider this BAD quality?!
this is amazing! it made me think so...
deep...

BRAVO you DESERVE 4.5 stars
4.5 not 5 bc the animation felt.... a bit.. sluggish? to me. making the character less "floppy" may help later in your videos.

Perfect example of fractal geometry
