Reviews for "Steam Rogue"

DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! THE DIFFICULTY IS BEAUTIFUL! In fact, that is what makes this game. It it weren't so GOD DAMN INFURIATING it wouldn't be any fun at all! And it isn't any kind of design flaw or control schematic that makes the game hard. Its the concept, and the level design. Learning to get past the challenges is the fun part, and completing the game feels good, like a true accomplishment. Truly beautiful, the work of a mastermind.

This reminds me of times when I was young and NES games were the challenge of a lifetime. Its amazing what kind of old-school feeling a game I have never played before can invoke simply by being a challenging platformer. Really, this is an amazing game. And made in Stencyl too? I'm learning that! Hopefully I may one day produce a game as awesome as this one.

I really look forward to more challenging levels soon!

This game rocks. Looking forward to new levels.

I don't think the levels are too hard, you only need to get used to the controls. You can fix messed up jumps by stopping shortly and continue after that. Lvl 10 was the hardest tbh until I understood the trick with jumping against second platform to get the top switch first.
Actually I would only change the Keys, because sometimes I confused jumping and stopping. So make it that they aren't near each other on the keyboard or just let them set ourselves (imho).

I didn't have problems with laggy input or "too close"-platforms, that game is all about timing, else it would be too easy.

Really awesome music by the way :)

Nice gameplay and design, sadly i got stuck after the first two levels but i'll keep having a ago until i get my jump right i guess. Could have more medals?

Stylish, interesting, but only 3,5 stars.
Yep, I like the game, but i've found controls a little bit annoying. Okay, maybe it's the matter of difficulty and part of the puzzle or my awkwardness, but... Why just not to allow to use WASD and arrows simultaneously?

For shame....
In GTA San Andreas you have to control airplanes with more than 10 keys. I thought that was complicated. But you did more than that with only 2 KEYS !
I played a similar game called "Wheel vs Flowers" which was far simpler and only used one key (only jumping, no stopping) . Now, that was fun. Not this.
At the end of the game, I felt a wave of relief as though I had gotten over a nightmare rather than a sense of accomplishment.
More levels coming soon? This is one game I won't be playing if you don't reduce the difficulty.

Alright, enough of that. Let me start with the constructive stuff:

It looked good in the beginning but got progressively worse.
There is a thin line between challenging and frustrating and you crossed that by a mile.
The difficulty factor in this was over the top. You need to understand that games stop becoming fun at that point.
You literally had me pounding the keyboard in frustration.
The platforms were way too close to allow for comfortable jumps, you should cut some slack there.
There is another problem where the keys don't register on time and exactly at crucial moments. At first, I thought my keyboard was busted , but then I tried out other games and it worked fine.
Having said that, the levels were well designed and the artwork was good.

This shows promise, but you need to design the game from an average gamer's perspective.
Sure, you may like it hard, but you need to think about the masses and keep it simple and fun.
Best of Luck !

Now this is how you give critique, people! Take an example of this good sir, kids.

I'll be doing some difficulty adjustments with next update. What stages you had the most trouble with?
