Reviews for "Swelter"
Fuckin loved it. The style reminded me of old sixties science fiction comics (rightfully so) The theme reminded me of bioshock, and an overall dystopian apocalyptic society. The design of the hazmat suits in the heat and the greedy robots were clever.
This, to Newgrounds standards, a 6-stars movie. It would take me a bit too long to list all the marvelous aspects of your movie (the animation, the design, the music, the color scheme, ...) so I would rather talk about what, still, lacks in my opinion. By no mean does it invalidate the fact that your flick here is absolutely over-qualified to be judged on the basis of Newgrounds standards, as I said.
I ignore what your limitations were for you to create this piece (be it money, be it time) so it'd be unfair from me to deem little flaws roughly. And in my point of view, the story, the plot is not developped enough, it feels like it could have used some more backstory or expansion, but then again, it's a critic that comes from my complete enthrallment of the world you crafted. As I would very rarely say :
Bravo.
This was one of the most beautiful movies I've seen on NG.
Animation: Superb. The colour palette, the textures, the fluid movements, they were all amazingly well done. Little touches like the child's movement made added a ton of personality to the film, and it made it all the more amazing.
Sound: From humble beginnings of signs blowing in the wind, to full out heart pounding music, the sound was effective and reflected the mood quite well.
Concept: I found it really cool, and I really liked the bond between the father and son. The child has to grow up in this apocalypse, and his father still has to be his father, as making sure they both survive.
Overall: I really liked it if you can't tell. More in this style would be great.
Amazing... most people dont know when to have their characters muted or how to make a muted animation but you have hit this nail right on the head good show! 5 well deserved stars. but the animation could have been a bit longer but that doesn't change the quality of the video.
