Reviews for "Parallel Memories: Ep 1-1"

Well I found this to be rather long. If I remember correctly this sprite video is now tied with that one bizarre stick flash for longest videos on Newgrounds. Congratulations on doing that!

The story seemed rather weird since it starts with that guy in a tube who makes me think of Ness a bit being experimented on to fuse Pokemon and humans together as one. It succeeds but blasts him far off into a galaxy light years away where video games and animes are real. Makes think very interesting.

Once arriving "Marichu" meets Mary and she asks him to go to a scrapyard where the script suddenly feels like it was tossed to the side since Marichu suddenly has a lot of power and just blows the planet in half which renders the series null until the one director comes in and chews you out for doing so.

I do have to agree with him though, I was enjoying the plot of the video until the junkyard battle took place. Hopefully part 2 will still have battles but they won't consume so much time and take away from the plot.

The music heard was incredibly nice and diverse. The voice acting was also good, although for Mary, I kind of picture her with a bit lower pitched voice for some reason.

Overall, very interesting and looking forward to what part 2 brings to the series.

Pienkaito responds:

I hope, I didn't overwelm you with the lengthiness of the episode. But it seems that you still liked it.
Great summary you wrote there, but the female character is called "May" and not "Mary".

Part 2 will mainly focus on the story, so there won't be any action scenes. I'll also try my best to keep it short and limit the runtime a bit.

Thanks for the well-written review, which was expected from the RRC crew.

The fights were neat, and had a few things going on in the background. A plus for the observant. Idea seems generic, but I'll see where it goes. Haven't seen any include TV before. Main problem... Marichu needs a better VA, or needs to learn his lines. At times I was wondering if he was reading them for the first time. Animation looked weird at times, like May tilting her head, but otherwise was great. In other words, it was good for half a years work. 2 years, though, raises the stakes a bit.

Pienkaito responds:

Yeah, I'll try to contact the guy who did Marichu's voice and tell him that he should improve, because he blows big time.

But I'm glad that you still enjoyed it even it had its flaws.
Thanks for reviewing.

what is the name of the song of the intro?

Pienkaito responds:

Aya Hirano - God Knows.
Remixed by DJ Bouche.

WHY DOESN'T THIS HAVE AN AWARD?!

seriously?! what the hell?! This was friggen AMAZING!! granted the last fight was... well, a bit out of place and dragged on. granted in the beginning it made me laugh seeing he was getting his ass handed to him by a bird but near the end it was just plain annoying

but I do like this! I really can't wait to see the next episode!! great great job! I can't say anything else but great job!!

the only kind of critique I can give would be for marichu's voice... there's not enough emotion into it, when he screams you really gotta make'em SCREAM!!

Pienkaito responds:

I can't have everything.
Give the series some time. It will get an award one day.

Thanks for the comment.

Well... well... WELLLLLL!!!!!

I guess the first thing to touch on is the length. I mean by my clock it went for like 40+ minutes, which to me is way WAY too long. I will mention the fact that you put alot of care into the sprite animation and the action sequences because it really does show, but as teejay said the whole thing story wise was too thin. I found the fight with that little bird thing extremely confusing too, I dunno if I missed something or what but then the random characters popping in got a bit annoying, and I didn't know whether to laugh because it was making fun of itself or if these characters were part of the story somehow and it was just confusing.

I see potential with this series, thus I implore that you DO NOT use SMBZ/DBZ styled fights in the series. It's overused and hurts the experience I think, I appreciated the fact you used different sound effects for the punches and kicks too. Also voice acting instead of text boxes is always a big plus, and I thought the voices were pretty good.

Overall I will admit I found it interesting, and the use of sprites was exceptonally good and I am interested to see what happens next. Remember anyone can do sprite fights, but only those with REAL talent can write a good story so you should focus on making that. Go for a bit shorter next time, maybe around 15-20 minutes maximum? Apart from that, keep it up.

Pienkaito responds:

First of all, thanks a ton in acceptin' my request.

Yep, a few mentioned that it's a very lengthy flash animation. I'll try my best NOT to overdo the animation next time and keep it straight-forward.
The story continues in episode 1-2 for real, so it's no big deal.

About the junkyard scene, don't crack your brain about it. It's like commanding a banana to be a melon.
There's no sense to it in any way and has absolutely nothing to do with the plot.
Don't worry, I'm a guy who tries to be unique. I can assure you that I'll try not to mimic any animation style, since it's really not my type.

Thanks for praising the VA by the way. Even though I'm pretty bad at it.

And again thank you for taking your time and writing this helpful review, which is very helpful.
Did I mention that it's helpful?
