Reviews for "There"

yeah this is good!
the glitchy intro/outro kind of feels like an afterthought, i really would've preferred something more DJ-friendly and deliberate feeling. i wish you didn't post the lyrics, they seem a little vacuous BUT i guess this isn't a poetry competition huh. kick is a bit different, very 2004 which was a great year for dance music imo. the snare is a little too dark for my tastes

pretty good dynamic variation and synth work. really love that hard sync lead and the little arps here and there, got that SNES supersaw down too. wish it was a bit richer, it feels kinda thin at the moment. the big taiko kinda drums in the background of the bridge are great, love little details like that.

the wubby section at the end seemed kinda tacked on and didn't really develop much, like you put the preview for a VIP mix on the end. but yeah, otherwise it's a really focused production with a few gaps in the sound. solid work!

garlagan responds:

You always find all the things I got lazy to work on, and more. And that's fantastic. Helps me see in a different perspective and give more on my next track.
You're right about the wubby section. I think 'Impulse' has got the same problem. That's for adding things without having much time. It's always fun though
Glad you liked the track midi!

Love the glitch starts off the song, and as usual, you have some really cool voice clips that tie the beat together. Super solid vocals that strengthen the melody.
That main synth is too good. 1:07 is killer; I love the flow and ease into the different transitions here. So many different sounds all over the place and they all mesh so seamlessly.
The echo at 2:34 is beautiful. You manage to make a song start afresh here, and it sounds different but in the main vein of everything electronically and my ears are all abouts it.
I felt it did get a bit repetitive as times, but that’s my only gripe here. Your mix is spot-on and bright, nothing too sharp. Bass is sounding good as well. You have a knack for revisiting older styles of music – this one is almost feeling like a Daft Punk classic ’97 mix.

Colorful synths, punchy beats, classic Garlagan. Great work!

NGADM Round 3 Score: 9.3

garlagan responds:

Elspeth! What an honour! Thanks for the encouraging review!

Awesome like always man. This is just amazing. I'm awed. This is amazing. You made it to round three man. Good job. Get to the top. Amazing amazing amazing. Keep up the good work

NGADM Quarter Final Review!

Solid as always!!!
As usual, this song benefits from an impeccable mix, you're one of the most consistently good sounding producers I know. It helps that this song is catchy as hell and that I'm loving the retro/90s vibe. The vocals remind me (in all the best ways) of Savage Garden too, I'm assuming that's you singing, very impressive work.
I really enjoyed the composition - the level of work this competition has dragged out of you guys is insane and forced me to revise how I score tracks from 1/2s to decimal places. What can I say? Excellent work Garlagan. Best of luck in the final!
9.6/10

garlagan responds:

Wow cheers Sam!
Yep, that's me singing. And it reminds you of Savage Garden?! NICE.

Totally feeling a Madeon vibe in this one. Your lead synths are so delicious and catchy, as always. You make really good, creative use of reverb and everything ties together so nicely. Definitely one of your best!

garlagan responds:

Oh man, Madeon is one of my biggest inspirations. Listening to his music makes me want to make music and quit making music both at the same time.
Glad you liked the track. Thanks man!
