Reviews for "Theme Hotel"

My hotel...

... is 50% elevators, and NO-ONE IS HAPPY.

Wow.

Only Toffee Games could make a simulation about hotel management fun.

Good game

Good but not realistic at all. Why does it take 3 days for a maid to clean a room?

The Elevators

Really enjoyed this game, yes it's short and not very involved in a lot of ways, but I was just looking for a quick time waster and this fit the bill perfectly. That said, I'd love to see the concepts in this game taken even further in a possible sequel that did have more depth, part upgrades, additional decor options, and all the other things mentioned below. I could see that being a lot of fun.

I also have to say that, believe it or not, I kind of liked the elevator mechanics as they are now. I hit five stars pretty quickly, at which point it became more an exercise in trying to optimize elevator traffic. Probably spent at least as much time on that (if not more) than getting the five star rating, and figured out this simple rule that might help anyone else getting frustrated with the elevators: AVOID LONG RUNS.
Based on my experimentation, it seemed that any elevator spanning more than 10 floors (for a high capacity one at any rate, smaller ones my have even lower tolerances) would take too long to get from place to place and result in a queue and angry customers. As such I tore out the huge array of 50 floor elevators that I'd built up and instead started replacing them with staggered runs of 10 floors each with one floor of overlap between the ten floor segments. Once I'd gotten about five of these runs going all the way up, I noticed that I was getting much faster results and virtually no complaints while using considerably less space than I had with the large amount of full service elevators. While the customers arguably spent longer amounts of time waiting and transferring from elevator to elevator, they spent a fraction of the time waiting for each individual elevator cab, and because I put several staggered runs next to each other there was almost always going to be at least one cab immediately available for them on that floor. Admittedly the cost of setting this up was much higher than doing a single straight run from the ground to the top, but my satisfaction rating got so high that I was making back the money faster than I was spending it. And all the extra space for rooms that opened up more than made up for the temporary loss of income.

Anyway, hope that my experimentation helps anyone struggling with the elevator mechanics. I'm sure there's room for improvement on the design that could produce a more cost-effective version for smaller hotels.
