FUCKING STYLISH
This is easily one of the most stylish games I've played. Ever. It's slick to the point of hurting my teeth. I'm not a huge mario song remix guy ... but holy shit, the soundtrack for this thing is simply pro.
The gameplay is fast, furious, smart, and easy to pick up (while hard to master).
I really truly hope this gets some ridiculous exposure on gaming sites.

AT LEAST THE GAME IS GOOD.

I took to carrying a goddamn potion while playing as one of the characters unlocked via the music note blocks. Those things're there, but in places that're sure to get you killed if you screw up. It's pretty straightforward from there if you manage to smack one though.
Could do with difficulty levels.
Slightly too hard to be fun is still too hard to be fun.
The fast pace and immediate restart make dying 20 times in a row on the first boss (with key) more frustrating, not less. If you put in easy, normal, and hard modes, and made some characters only accessible on hard in order to preserve a reward system, you'd have a game with a lot more flexibility.
I'd also quibble with the menu design. Exiting a menu should return you to the previous screen, not the one before that.
Good job on other aspects of game design, though.
