Reviews for "Hope"

MY GOD, MAN!

The performance is amazing. The composition is amazing. The emotions are amazing. The production is amazing. Those little inverse chords that work as transitions are amazing. This is so amazing.

Holy S*** I just got to the strings. My God!
Guitar tone is also sublime.

2:43, there's a small bit of clipping. But that's it. Song is phenomenal.

5/5 - Am intimidated. If I happen to make it into the next stage of NGADM, I hope to stay as far away from you for as long as possible, haha.

Your review is amazingly encouraging!
In regards to the next stage of NGADM, likewise. Can't say I've composed much rhythmic/action-packed pieces as you, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Great atmosphere - at the beginning it reminded me a lot of the soundtrack of amelie. What i think was a great idea are those little risers before the chords. Also the reverb was very nice. In some situations i thing you could have done stronger key changes and in the middle it gets a little bit repetitive - which also is ok because its a minimal music piece.

The pink floyd part was really cool. When i hear this i just see the LP cover with this burning man reaching out the hand to the other one ...

Well done!

Glad you think so! With every piece, I'm really attempting to just learn and practice something new whether through composition, mixing, or as a producer. For example: those little risers, I really got the idea from Broove's track Heartbeats. I noticed that he reversed the piano before the piano part is heard to enhance that Einaudi sound.
I do love me some key changes and chord progressions, but as you're already aware, it really isn't meant to be here I suppose. Mostly, because the piano was really an improvised part while I decided to add layers later on. For me to get complex with key changes, that would require me to write it down and that would cause a lot of pauses in the performance as I have to analytically think on the spot. 'Tis just a piece to convey a message of pure emotion that was expressed at a moment in time while not worrying too much of the direction/composition of it. Even the guitar part was a bit improvised, but I decided to utilize the comp mode from Logic (great tool btw)!
I didn't realize it at the time, but when all the parts were done in time for recording the guitar, it just seemed to call for a David Gilmore kind of style. Wasn't my intention at first, but I'm sticking with it.
Thank you SoundChris.

I must say, I was sceptical at the start of the song. I don't really know why you used Rhodes there, but they don't really fit the rest of the song in my opinion. First of all your sounds are really good, the piano sounds beautiful with the split(-ish) stereo. When you introduce the guitar, it takes on a Pink Floyd vibe. The sounds somewhat remind me of Shine on you Crazy Diamond. All in all, great work! I enjoyed listening to it! Thanks!

Phonometrologist responds:

Thank you so much for listening and taking time to express your thoughts on it--I don't take these for granted I assure you. I was wondering what track of Pink Floyd in particular it reminded me the most and I think perhaps you're right with Shine On mostly because of the background strings.
The Rhodes idea was just a little intro I thought keeping in there primarily to set the tone of the piece. Call it a psychological approach I took in perspective to how one would listen to it. It's meant to say, "expect to take your time," with the piece as you're listening, but it's also a production trick to have the listener adjust their volume to hear it better while the music that proceeds it gets a little louder. Another reason was because I liked the timbre of the Rhodes, and it makes the piano sound a little more refreshing to my ears when the chord progression is being done with a different sound.
I experimented with a lot of ideas on this track, and really what I'm trying to say is that the Rhodes idea was just that. Got to find out some way to see if it works. Maybe it does, or maybe it doesn't, but I'm okay with that. Thank you again for the review!
