Reviews for "2 Guys & a Jigsaw Puzzle"

LOL

I needed this. A good laugh. Thanks :)

Great video

Honestly I found it amusing, the stereotypical representation of the dude with the blue hair was awesome in terms of a moron that tries to learn things and just drops a crucafix and says "God knows all, he is our edge pieces in the puzzle".

Also, I LOVE how every single post being put here that I can see so far is marked as a ueseless review, even if it actually contains good info or a compliment to the video. Really shows how open minded the viewers of this video were ^.^

Clever

I like your style and i like your stereotypical characters. The idea used in this movie was quite interesting and force to think. I wonder if you put that cross as a symbol for certain purpose, but even if so, it has some truth, but not all.

Christianity blocked some ways to obtain certain knowledge (Copernicus's heliocentric theory for example) but i don't think that "edge pieces" are wrong. Just think about it. Genetic modifications, breeding synthetic organs, than humans, cloning humans, low quality in vitro method. Without religion or what really matters, without ethic (conscience?) these methods would develop so fast and would be in public use without final upgrades. So humans (humanity?) could be harmed.

There are plenty of books (Make Room! Make Room! Harry Harrison's), anime (Kaiba), or even PC games (Bioshock) or RPG games (Neuroshima) where world is not limited by ethic (religion) or some people weren't. It has lead to disaster.

Of course it could not be so bad, but keep a look on our history. Chain reaction, DDT, TNT. All these inventions had purpose to serve people, but it lead to disaster.

So we need these "edges" not because someone doesn't want to (God, nature, conscience), but because without it scientists would develop incomplete product which could be devastating for us.

I gave 9/10. Animation was very good, but (as always) could be better.

TmsT responds:

I disagree that an artificially enforced limit to knowledge is good for humanity. Knowing things doesn't automatically cause harm. Poor choices, assumptions based on LACK of knowledge, and abuse of knowledge make up the problem. This has always been and will always be the case, regardless of whether the present sum of human knowledge amounts to what it is today or what it was 7,000 years ago. Knowledge is power and power corrupts, but only absolute power corrupts absolutely. And only absolute knowledge can exist when it is completely restricted, in the same way that a jigsaw puzzle should be confined by edge pieces (although this movie is not about that metaphor but I do find some of your insights interesting and debatable). But even real jigsaw puzzles only show a smaller part of a larger picture.

While it is true that limitations on the use of knowledge prevent our species from self-annihilation, the same can be said for extensions of the use of knowledge. Furthermore, knowledge is always growing. We don't have a choice, here - brains gain knowledge and people share knowledge. Only MORE knowledge can help humanity hold back corruption, not ignorance. And with this new knowledge comes the potential for more corruption, so yet more knowledge must be gained to counter this. It may seem like a never-ending chain of problems, and that is precisely the point. If there were "edge knowledge", we would be doomed to disaster because eventually we would come up against a wall that says "you are not allowed to work toward a solution to this problem. Don't ask why, that just results in more knowledge, which is totally cheating." But with boundless potential for knowledge, we can always survive whatever problem arises and move on to the next. There will always be something more to be done, something new to be learned. Maybe this process will destroy us someday, but that is a hypothetical scenario and the problems of today are real threats. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

But, of course, this is all highly philosophical and not why the Edge Piece Guy thought edge pieces were a good idea - he just wanted to get the puzzle solved and knew the technique of building off the edges until nothing is left. And, because it WAS just a jigsaw puzzle after all, this makes him theoretically right in bringing in the edge pieces. We need them in order to finish jigsaw puzzles. But they would not be applicable to a jigsaw puzzle with no end. And they weren't even the right shape for a properly cut jigsaw puzzle! Maybe they weren't even edge pieces at all. Or maybe they were edge pieces from a different puzzle, one that didn't represent all human knowledge.

cool

i like the way he was talking about side pieces since thats the way i start a puzzle

Yeah nothing more...

But please do some more. That was entertaining and fun and thoughtful.
