Reviews for "Binding of Isaac DEMO"

Holy moly

i will have nightmares for a couple of days now........

It's a demo!

Great fun for this demo, I think some folks are over thinking the game...it's a demo and it's like old Legend of Zelda. That shows the age of the creators and the age of those who don't understand the Nintendo style game place. Great work fellas.

Initially taking aback

But kinda got into this. Aside to the up-to-date flash graphics, this is basically a VERY old game, both in spirit and in mechanics. The kinda stuff that used to entertain me for hours for it's pure simplicity and minimalistic approach to game design. It especially helps that there is the modern vibe of actually narrative and the afore-mentioned graphics.

What I realise out of this is that I have been fed full fat crap and forgotten how to enjoy a game of this fashion.

Also, I bought the full version off steam, but being in dorms I can't fuckin download it X(. How suckish.

Attractive concept, depressing atmosphere

I think this game captured the heavy element of abandonment, neglect, betrayal and loneliness pretty well. From the unpleasant environment, music and grotesque enemy. Definitely set the mood right in, I'll comment on it further down.

The shooting mechanism is the most prominent. While the enemy and the character could move in relatively omni-direction, the tears could only be shot in 4 directions, which can be really annoying, given that the enemies' movements are fluid. Making aiming pretty challenging, not impossible, since I went through the game with barely any scratch, lost about 2-3 hearts?

In addition, the bullets have the curving effect that is relatively affected by your movements. If you shoot while moving to the left, the bullet will curve in that direction. Although a certain distance is required for it to curve, making judgement of bullet travel quite challenging.

Then there's the boulders and rocks. It wasn't explained in the game that those rocks and boulders could be pulverized by the bomb. Veteran game players might be able to figure it out, but I would put my bet on that newbie players probably would not have figured it out.

Unless of course it was intended as some kind of puzzle, that if solved would give access to awesome loots. Although I do not really see the need for such in a demo game.

The statuses are not given an explanation either. The Rosary's Faith Up? I do not see what effect it really has, other than adding a few grey hearts. Because as far as I know, those grey hearts are not permanent health upgrade, so why the permanence in change of appearance?

It is good that the game capture the moody atmosphere, but in my opinion, it was way overdone. Everything is depressing, even after you defeated a boss, the memories he had were all of bullying. The only time he was ever happy, was when he got random quirky items. I don't really feel the sense of 'Yeah! Take that Boss!', since the main character didn't rejoice anyway, just more self-pity.

The grey hearts I mentioned, for those wondering, are temporary health boost, means you cannot replenish them, they will not deplete unless you get damaged.

This is definitely not a feel good game. Meat boy had violent-dark humour, this game is not humorous at all. A recommended game for emos and those that like to wallow in sorrow.

I llike it. Honestly

I love the whole legend of zelda creepy twist you got going on. But I have like a thing, of not buying flash games. Even for a buck. I just don't do it. So unfortently, no.
