Reviews for "Monster Arena"

Amazing!

Here's what I've found so far on the matter of this game, the training, specifically the bugged intelligence training, and the stat limits: After a couple of hours of grinding, I can guarantee that as long as you neither fight nor try any other form of training nor pick "rock" the first time one does intelligence training, one can train their monster's intelligence as much as they want without fear of getting soft blocked. I can also confirm that the max for stats is 500 each. In conclusion: Bugs cannot stop me from enjoying this game.

Quick edit: By maxing out intelligence I've found that fights give 50% more experience, for example, fighting someone that yields 16 exp by base with 500 intelligence will instead yield 24 exp. On a fun note: as a result of maxing intelligence, whilst also having a healing ability in fights, my monster is now essentially immortal so long as I'm careful and the enemy can't 1-shot me. Additionally, I've found after grinding int on another playthrough that stopping midway, getting some abilities, and then trying to train int again causes the soft lock glitch, regardless of which option you pick. Therefore: if you're going to train int, do it first, don't choose abilities, train anything else, or get into any fights until you're done, doing things in pet mode is fine, and don't pick rock for at least the first intelligence training session.

New edit: Another run ruined, another glitch discovered! This time, I have two new pieces of information regarding battles. 1st: When you're playing as the dinosaur, and you use the four energy attack on a monster with lower health, you can damage the enemy monster to below its hp, when this happens, the enemy goes into the negative, and slowly regenerates, meanwhile you still produce energy and can attack with that energy, but it doesn't do anything at all, it just goes through the move's animation without any results, thankfully, although slow, you can just wait until the enemy's health regenerates to above 0, and then hit it again to win the fight. I don't know if this happens with other moves or monsters, but I have only had it happen once whilst fighting a poison golem (after a lot more playing this has still never happened again).

The 2nd bug and the one that ended my run: I picked the monster battle training option and was presented with a poison golem that was much more powerful than my monster, which is a trademark of this training, it just makes you go up against monsters that are way stronger than you. Anyways, I unsurprisingly found myself quickly losing, and was eventually given the final blow, it was a "thousand years of pain" move, and it was the middle attack that killed me, my monster's hp reached 0, and it preceded to repeat the animation of it getting attacked over and over, I was hardlocked because I could not make any moves, nor leave the fight, nor kill the monster (again, couldn't use any moves), and wasn't dying, therefore, my only option was to x out. I assume that what happened was that because I was killed by the second attack in a triple attack move, the game kept trying to have the third attack land, but since I was already dead, it wouldn't, thereby causing my monster to repeat the "getting hit" animation to no avail. Tl;dr don't pick the encounter monster training option if you're playing as the dinosaur, and be cautious with anything else. Addendum: I have since discovered a bug that makes the monster battle training option unviable which I discuss below, therefore, just don't ever use this training feature.

New edit: I am still playing this game, and have gotten further in training than ever before. 1st discovery: Invisibility is absolutely busted, especially when combined with high agility, it makes you dodge all attacks, but it doesn't guarantee you dodge poison attacks or debuffs, it also takes 5 energy to use, but the duration is pretty reliably long even at just LVL 1 invisibility. 2nd discovery: in agility training, once you get past the 900m mark, you can fall off and get the 5 (or 3 if you don't anger your monster in pet mode) agility stats that you would get by completing the course, you just get less exp. Note: defensive training takes the longest and is the hardest to level up (at least in my opinion), not just because it takes the most skill, but also because I live in constant fear of being struck with the triple K and LSD, and I just got <S> <A> <D> :(.

Update: For SOME REASON, doing monster battle will take 1 stat point off of all 4 stats, and then add the stats you gained from doing the battle, meaning that if you play a monster battle, win, and then gain 1 point in each stat, because you lose 1 stat in playing monster battle, you would make 0 progress, and on average, you would likely lose stats. I'm unsure whether the reason I hadn't discovered this bug sooner is that it doesn't always happen and is therefore okay to do sometimes, or if I was just blind, but if the case is indeed the former, DO NOT PLAY MONSTER BATTLE, it is legitimately not worth it.

Nice game! Sometimes you get softlocked training intelligence! And it doesn't save my progress at all! No, it's only 2 hours of grinding! :)
