Reviews for "SMRPG Waltz of the Forest"

Well

Is this truly your last animation? I would've tried to do something, you know, original. This animation was good at parts, but seemed lazy at others. Looking back at your original animation Rawest Forest, I don't see any major improvement that actually constitutes remaking it. The song is basically identical, albeit slightly worse. Honestly, most of this community eats up music videos and video game references, so don't get a hard-on from your high rating.

Kirbopher responds:

No, this isn't my "last animation ever". It's the last animation I've done as I'm in the process of leaving college. I have PLENTY more planned than this, but please, feel free to use it as a bland excuse to call it a waste.

no...

Of all the great songs super mario rpg has the only song people seem to do is this song that's from a part of the game that's not even signifficant, not even verry interesting at that. I mean, who actually got stuck in the forest? O.o

As for the song, the one from the Rawest Forest was nice, but not really more than that. And this one wasn't even half as good. And it wasn't even a waltz, not anything NEAR a waltz. The only thing that was nice in the song was the opera part, and I friggin hate opera music.

But the animation was good, Only problem with the animation was that it hardly made any sence, and with that I mean that there's no kind of logical order in the animation. It basically looks like you've took all kinds of stuff and characters from the game and just throw it randomly together.

So the next time making a music video: put some thought into it before making it. Cause this just seems like a waste of time and skill to me.

Tell Me?

What is usse of this? It becomes boring after some thime... Pile of umnpineshid work!!!!!!!

... I'm disappointed.

You know what, before I begin the actual review, let me take into account a few things. I noticed in the past, you have stated that you are making the flashes you want and the reason being you enjoy making them. I can relate to that, mostly because I make horrible voice acting because I enjoy it, but really, if that's the best excuse you have for not improving whatsoever and listen to those who criticize you, that just shows that you're either not learning, you refuse to listen to others, or you lack the diligence or patience to take the time and improve. Please, don't just read reviews and just ignore the bad ones like you seem to do a lot. Open your eyes, you've been using the same style of artwork for years now, and I have hardly seen any improvement since 2010, actually 2009 except for a few changes.

Now on to the actual review of the flash. Alright, the introduction caught my attention for once, and hardly anyone has actually caught my attention through a simple introduction, but I can see you are different. But, it doesn't make up for the flaws. First of all, you still don't shade? You'd think by now you would actually shade in the characters, but no. Actually, the shading was flat out gradient. That's not what many artists define as shading. The audio quality of course was top-notch. If this were a tribute, I can understand, but this is more of a remix of an old song than a tribute. I thought this would take me back, but I was taken aback by how the animation was almost the same and the fact that the song had rap was just awful. You say that you make this in about 2 weeks correct? The artwork isn't bad if you were trying to place in a lot of effort over a course of 2 weeks, but don't you think you should take your time? You're in no rush, and seeing as though this has nothing to do with anything else other than sharing it with others, I see no reason why you have to do everything in 2 weeks. Perhaps you were anxious or impatient? I wouldn't know.

The original song itself I must admit, felt really nostalgic. However, that song is outdated and old. It isn't as popular as it was today. Again, you must have created this because you still love it or like it today, but remember this, you won't expect a majority to agree in your perspective. It's like if I took "All your base" and attempted to remix it to appeal to audiences today. It won't work if it's outdated. Things that are good die out eventually, and obviously, your sense of style and taste when it comes to making flash animations hasn't died out yet. I've also noticed you haven't been making anything original since 2009, and the recent flashes involving you you had no part of in making other than the voicing. Don't get me wrong here, I sort of share the same interests as you, but the real difference between you and me, I don't plaster my interests wherever I go and expect a lot of people to like it as much as me. That probably isn't even your goal, but don't you think it's about time you did something original for a change? I haven't seen anything original since 2009.

... I wish you would actually listen to me this time, and a lot of others too. But according to my expectations, I don't see that happening. I'm done.

I really do not see why people think this is so good.

We have bland, repetitive singing that, while not terrible, also is not good. We have lyrics that are also very lackluster - sometimes they go out of their way to make awkward rhymes while other points see no rhymes with even more awkward phrases. They can also be repetitive to an unnecessary point. The remix itself is nothing too special - there is a very similar but much better remix floating around somewhere and its style is overpopulating remixes anyway. So, succinctly, the song and music is nothing special, and par at best.

The art is...inconsistent at best. Some parts are good, I will note, but there are other parts that look terrible. And still others that are in the middle. Again, the word awkward also comes to mind with regards to some of the visuals. And what is shown...seems not to really fit with the song, more often than not. So what does that make this? There is almost no "animation." All I seem to see are spots going off in the beginning, things moving slightly and a lot of stills shifting around a lot. These do not make for particularly pleasing visuals, and certainly not a cohesive visual. Decent, again, but nothing too special.

Much improvement could be had here. For one, putting more thought into the lyrics and visuals would have immediately created a much better experience. A different genre of remix could have made this more of a true tribute to the original. Just making a cohesive video that fits together with itself would have been very nice. This...doesn't do that.

I am not saying this is terrible. However, I am saying that the sound is par at best, the visuals do not make it that far and nothing seems to be in sync with anything else.

I would also like to point out a few things. Our author notes section notes that the original track is "one of [the composer's] most highly regarded compositions." This (1) does not mean it is good and (2) leaves me wondering why the original was not used, or a fuller orchestral version if this is such a "highly regarded" track. This does little to show off anything other the track. I would also like to note that there are much better versions of this track than this, frankly, overrated one.
