Reviews for "Contemporary"

Really liked it! My fvorite part are the harmonies in the strings! I really dissapeard in that image with your music playing! Great work!

Shit son, there ain't no reason you shouldn't get a spot on the album!

Personally, I hate dubstep wobble stuff, so I hope you don't mind that I skipped that bit and will not let it impact my review.

I really enjoy the distorted sound you got on the piano. The intro is beautiful and you definitely have an ambient feel and that awesome distorted organ-sounding sustain/long release just melts my heart. I seriously could have dealt with the whole song sounding like the intro. Recording with a crappy mic was a good move.

Then everything gets pretty wicked. Fast percussion with a step beat, a bass line that sounds like an udu being played at times and these beautiful, soaring violins that get accompanied by some nature sounds. Marvelous.

It should go without saying that I loved the second verse and outro as well. I personally feel that you could have made the song perfectly fine without the wobble, but I hear from dubstep enthusiasts that the only good part for them is the wobble, so I'm not expecting anything to change here.

The mix could be crisped up with some upper range EQing on the master, but I enjoy the sort of sound it has now. The only noticeable issue with EQ I have is the snare. The snare is the thing that really needs some crisping up. I don't want you to fry it, though. If you can't get it to work just leave it alone, y'know?

It reminds me of PSO and Gunslinger Girl, which are huge pluses for me.

Great work!

BY THE GODS!

What a chill song, especially at the beginning. I will be honest, I skipped farther into the song to skip the long intro, but I believe that on a background playlist or something, the longer intro would not be a problem. I really loved the part when the drums started coming in and the piano started becoming more chopped and less fluent. Overall, a really great calming piece. I also loved the dirty basslines of that drop. It kinda came out of nowhere and I wasn't really expecting it, but it was a pleasant surprise! Keep up the great work!

I don't need to mention anything about the quality of the piano, however the way you added everything around the piano had me going for the whole piece. There are some things that need to be stitched up that other people have already mentioned so I won't bother. Except the birds, I don't understand the birds chirping... oh wait. After hearing the WUBWUBWUBS it makes sense now.

With all of that aside, what program did you use? Everything sounds really good and clean. All of the sounds are crisp and give my ears all sorts of good feelings. I'm blown away by everything that's playing in my ears.

Kabalist responds:

The chirping birds was a complement to the atmosphere of the image that inspired me to write this track. It added some nice texture to the prelude of the drop.

This song was created using FL Studio 11, and a bunch of sexy VSTs. Maybe I should add that to the description... I've been working with FL for six years or so. I didn't really get into mixing up until a little while ago. Once you get the hang of it, everything will make total sense. I'd recommend using this program since it's an extremely well-developed and versatile software.

By writing those words you have aroused a tingling sensation in my chest, which I assure you is not a symptom of heart disease. I'm super happy to hear that you enjoyed the song.

Thanks for your review, Spade!
