Maybe you could have added a score multiplier or if you hit more buttons and did more multi-tasking, you get more points.

Maybe if you tweaked the movement of the car to be able to move more with a single click? I find that you have to click to many times to move the car a suitable amount.
You should be able to hold the key down. Are you using internet explorer? This sometimes causes problems with the keys.
