There's a glitch in the game in the Caves (after the snowy fields or whatever it's called) where your character might not be positioned on the platform correctly, when the lever is pushed and the platform takes off your character is left behind, the sound and animation for the platform going up plays, but your character is stuck unable to move because the platform left them, but you haven't transitioned to the other map...
