Reviews for "The Essay"

You need to learn how to code better

I have tried this game multiple times, enough so that I remembered the words in the first paragraph, however once I remembered them and could type them at an increased speed your game would stop recognizing that I was hitting the correct keys on my keyboard.

If you are going to make a game that challenges the player's speed please allow it to actually acknowledge the speed they are reacting at instead f limiting them.

Should I have been able to use my true typing abilities while playing this game it would have been great, however the game putting a limit on my speed is why I gave it a 5/10

um?

is it just me or does it type by itself cause it keeps going after i stop

You expect me...

To write an ESSAY for FUN?!

Nice

Imagine playing this with the onscreen keyboard =P

Essay ahoy!

Awesome game! Before I knew it, I actually wrote an essay for the game itself. I just wanted to test the custom function, but it turned out into an actual text. I'll add it below the revied for anyone who dares tackle it. I've only checked it for spelling once, so it could still have some.

All in all, the game was a fun time cruncher. The only thing bothering me was the lack of (an easy) mute button.

Welcome! To the challenge typing message! This message will test your cognitive senses, action time and reaction to mistakes. Do enjoy yourself while you're at it. Why you ask? Because if you don't, you'll die! Muahahaha! So... On with the explanation.

Congratulations! You've reached the first what is called the 'regression line' or line-saver. This basically means you've reached the next paragraph (the two terms are actually made up, but sounded cool for this game). Since you're objective is to stay alive as long as possible, each time you reach a new paragraph you essentialy gain a line on the white typer for free!

About that white text, obviously you're not the only one competing! The white text is from a contestant who started before you! And he's typing at the same speed than the contestant in front of him. Who is coincidentally typing as fast as the first man who's typing the letters to follow. All with appropriate delays of course. The question remains though, can you keep up? The next paragraph will deal with the differences between British and American English. Be prepared!

Welcome to paragraph 4! I'm glad you've made it this far! As promised, I will speak about differences between American and British English. Let us look at some exampls first (Always BrE on the left and AmE on the right): Armoury versus Armory. Do you see the difference? It goes for most, if not all, the words that have a similar spelling. Here are some examples: Colour and color; Labour and Labor; ... The list goes on really.

Let's look at another difference. This time around, the topic will be grammar! Let's look at the following two sentences: "I have just had lunch." and "I just had lunch". So what's the difference? In American English, both forms are considered viable. However, in British English the second sentence (constructed using a past simple) would be faulty. If you use the first sentence, constructed using a present perfect tense, you'd have a correct form for both AmE and BrE!
For the next paragraph, I will be discussing vocabulary differences.

Right, differences in vocabulary. This is going to be a heavy one, so be prepared. You might know a few differences yourself, such as the words "Fall" and "Autumn". Both have the same meaing (as in the season before summer).
A quick sidenote here: I won't be going in depth as to the reason the differences in vocabulary exist, perhaps I'll divulge that information in another paragraph. Let's look at some other differences: Pavement and sidewalk or Lorry and Truck. Film and Movie is another good example. Or perhaps you recognize Luggage and baggage?

The paragraphs are starting to feel like chapters here. But all is well in love, war and typing games, am I right? As to the reason I've given you two lines, I thought u might need a breather. Then again, you don't really gain anything, two lines for you is the same as for the other contestants. If anything, I actually decreased the odds of you reaching here, since you were busy in an earlier paragraph when the AI already skipped these two lines. No hard feelings, right? Looking back at the entire text, I think if you've reached this point, you've already won!

I think I better warp this up. If you've reached this line, you're in the clear (you can finish without time pressure).

I hope you had fun! And who knows, maybe you picked up an interesting lesson. Oh wait! This is Newgrounds! Hahahahaha!
