Reviews for "TRON:Lightcycle Challenge"

just no.

The worst part about this game is that the enemy fucking light cycles always cut in front of you or collide head on. If they had practical self-preservation, they would not do this, as it would kill them too. Ughhhh.

joshmorgan responds:

I feel your pain, tankman09, but we wanted to stay true to the original 1982 arcade game, which was punishingly difficult (classic arcade games were called "quarter-eaters" for a reason), and the original developers seemed to sadistically taunt the player by denying us the satisfaction of at least having the enemy explode too.

Thanks for playing!

Josh

This game. Was hard. Indeed.

I never did play the actual arcade Tron game. Actually, I didn't know anything about it, so I went in blind expecting nothing, except that being an arcade game, it was designed to eat quarters.
From what this re-creation tells me: Yeah, that's about right. I sorely underestimated this game's difficulty (That usually happens to me though).

From level 1 I fumbled around a bit, dying as well just seeing how this game played. After I got used to it, things were easy. I even thought, "If it's like this, this ain't too hard." And then I saw level 2.
I have never eaten my words harder for a game.

Adding two light cycles in a level made it exponentially harder, not to mention they get faster in each subsequent level. The controls being 'unresponsive' worsened matters immensely as it would be compromising when trying to make some very precise turns and in a hurry. This became the subject of my slight anger. But on top of all that, add in the AI being really good, really makes it that the only edge retained over them would be speed.
And you lose even that advantage completely around level 7.

That being said, yes, the game is hard. But not unbeatable. Skip this and the next paragraph if you, the person reading, don't want hints. As the AI becomes faster, the slow speed starts becoming pacifist weapon if you can turn the levels into a battle of attrition. (It's easier than it sounds. Pulling off a win with the controls is the hard part.) Sometimes, the AI shows as well that it can be abused, as they prioritize chasing your cycle over avoiding walls. Combining this and Battle of Attrition made it laughable at times. But still not easy.

Getting through to the last level gives you... Not 3 cycles, not 4 cycles, not even 5, but... A one on one battle. With a cycle much faster than you. This level is actually even easier than level 2.
No, I'm not kidding. I've never lost at it.

So basically, being persistent enough got me two completions of the game. I considered taking off 1/2 a star because of the controls, but this is a re-creation. A little too faithful, but that's the anger talking.

P.S. That attract is incredibly Bad Ass.

P.S.S Maybe someone can make a Tron game with a fairer difficulty curve and no unresponsive controls? *Wink wink, nudge nudge.*
What? I'm not doing it.

At the second level this was exactly what happened.

Before second level "First was so easy :P"

Second level starts "Wai Wha-WHAT"

Attempts to beat all

One fails

Gets hit "Yep, i quit"

Good game though XD

THIS GAME IS AMAZING!! ,even it is hard XD,i like it because that what i want in games it give you that energy to play it again and again all day and night
