Reviews for "Darkest Days"

Great!

Needs some sort of progressive reward so replay is started stronger each time.

JoUBG responds:

I agree. You can expect persistence in the sequel.

Great game

and most issues have been mentioned, but there is one thing I haven't seen. It would be nice to have an autofire option, it's not like you get a score bonus for accuracy so it would be easy on the index finger to be able to not hold down the left mouse button the whole time.

JoUBG responds:

Good idea, thanks for the review!

good game..

I liked this game, I like the concept and all the stuff you put in it. BUT! and yes, its a big but because the game is literally unbeatable. Sine there is no way of dodging the little things coming at you since they come in tons! the life is a problem, I'm over here trying to level my attack when my life is a problem, its just very little of it. I did found some hearts but they game me only 5 health and its not enough (again because they come in tons and no way of avoiding damage). A few things you could do would be to reset life at the beginning of every level or make heart give full life or something like that. Other than that, the game is great.

JoUBG responds:

It is unbeatable in the same way that geometry wars is unbeatable. :P

Nice game

It really is a great game that is fun to play. The upgrades or Skill-Trees are well thought and you can tell by overlooking them how you can/should skill.

Gameplay itself is interesting and well done. The game isn't "too hard", it is just that with the ongoing levels your upgrades are getting worse. And at some point, the level is just better than you upgrades, and it doesn't matter what you do, you'll lose this level.

I think you should keep more balance between the upgrades and the difficulty of the level, so every player can play it to the end or with all upgrades.

Other than that, great and well developed flash-game.

Thanks for the helpful feedback :)

some good, some bad

Good:
1. Upgrade system
2. Background story

Bad:
1. Uneven difficulty- you could be breezing through and then suddenly not be able to beat a level; increase in difficulty would be better if it were more gradual
2. The skills were really clumsy to use; would have been better if you could let the player set the keys

Ugly:
1. Graphics- this is where I was most disappointed with the game; you would think with the epic storyline and the futuristic setting that the graphics would be a little better than simple black and white circles and squares; I was expecting bright, 3d futuristic graphics based on the intro and was treated to something from the 80s
2. Repetitive- especially if you're trying to get deeper in the game; you're basically just spending a lot of time getting to the point where you lost before doing the same thing you did before over and over; it's really no fun

JoUBG responds:

Thanks for the review, I'm glad you like the story.

I agree the hotkeys for laser and teleport are a little inconvenient, so if you make one your active skill by clicking on it you can use it with SPACE.

As for your ugly section, I don't think you can expect "bright 3d futuristic graphics" in the sequel, but it should look a lot better. Also if you're trying to get beyond the point you died, I don't think doing the same thing you did before is a viable strategy. :)

I'll try to implement key-mapping in future releases.
