Reviews for "Legend of JOHNNY"

Nice!!!

5 and 10 for this really nice game. i like the combo system and how fluid it works. (im a fan of fluid things ^^...a question of quality for my part...)
i wished it would be possible to get the second mouse button to be functional in flashs (dont am used to flash programming...) so one could have one MB for gunfire and one for slashes but ur solution is a good one^^

well...thanks for sharing this game!!!

It looked like it had potential..

A wanna be 'game' is more fitting for a title. The controls were sloppy, and annoying to boot. Try a more "W,A,S,D, + J,K,L style, and save the clicking for shooting only. Having to figure out where the swing, shoot range is a bother and hassle, and often would lead to my death as i'm trying to do one thing (shoot bats) but would suddenly swing and fall off the ledge simply because of the control scheme. As well, this style seems to be overly done, with everyone wanting their game to be on par with Devil May Cry.
As well, the "Play a Game" is really REALLY stupid. Why not just say "Click here to go to a different website and save us the trouble of figuring out it's just an ad.

Good... but...

There's a lot to like. The battle mechanics are really quite cool. At first I was a little iffy about the controls for the attacks especially getting the hang of the near and far clicks, but honestly once I got used to it I found them to be quite fluid. I could easily transition from shooting to slashing once I got the hang of it and it was quite fun. The music is great and the animation is pretty cool too. The only tough bit regarding controls is hanging on to the ceiling. That was quite a tough move to execute with the given controls.

The problem I have is that there are just too many small little things that make this thing a frustration to play.

The autofire upgrade doesn't work. The double tap dash attack is executed too easily and can be accidentally done so much when moving because it doesn't even have any association to attack moves unlike the upwards slash. The same goes for the downward attack. Sometimes it's fatal due to dashing into a hole with no way of recovery. The rate of recovery from some sword moves are so slow if you miss there's no way of avoiding enemy attacks. Upon death, there's no 'invulnerability' for a split second at all. That was particularly frustrating when I was near the edge and an enemy hit me off. Then I spawned again and he immediately hit me off again. No way of recovery at all.

I would suggest life bars for enemies. Some things just don't seem to die when I shoot them and I have no way of really knowing whether I'm doing any damage at all. Like those mushroom guys on level 4.

Overall, there just isn't enough action in game to make this exciting. Levels are scarcely populated by enemies and involve more platforming than brawling. More jumping and getting around than actually fighting. With the game mechanics in play here what with both sword and gun action being interchangeable with a move of the mouse, you have potential for some crazy epic monster battles here. But there weren't any.

Alot of these issues need to be tested and adjusted to make this play smoother and more controllable. But you certainly got my attention with this one.

Interesting

I love the concept, but as other said the controls are... yeah. A better option to switch between gun and sword would have been to tap spacebar. Better reaction is needed, the game play appears less smooth than intended, alas remove the queue of commands.

....Well...

It's not too bad, have a good music selection, and the game is a bit interesting and humorous (especially if you go and check out the cut scenes) but there are just so many glitches in this game that I can't enjoy it.

As some have stated, the game has a tendancy to freeze when you get to the second boss, the crab thing. While walking (not running) I found that it would ignore a jump input and, instead, do a dash. Obviously there's a differance between a double tap to one side and pressing up. Another thing I found was that, in the bar, if the mouse passed over the "level select" option, your character would shoot or attack. Nothing hindering, but an error none-the-less. And with the 4th boss, I have literally been knocked off the screen...and I can't walk back past the invisible wall I got knocked through, I can't shoot through it, and the boss' attacks won't pass through either so I can't even die.

I'm not going to attempt to start this over but, as I said, with these gliches, it's losing points. Fix it up and come back, maybe a re-release or just another game where you've done more checking.
