Reviews for "Rune Hunt"

Good, but a little laborious

While this game does have some very good points, it can get a little monotonous after a while, having to doge those creatures that hide in the shadows, which are afraid of light, but do burst forth if they can see a quick meal ahead just in the light.

I got through the first few pieces, but don't get me wrong, it's a very good game. If you wanted to improve it, I'd certainly suggest getting in on the medals programme, as you seem like one of these programmers that could benefit from more exposure that Medals would bring to this. Then you could expand and place it on so many more sites.

The plot was good, the music was decent, but please check the Audio Portal for more ambient tunes that you could use to good effect. I think that the occasional additional piece of dialogue should be thrown in and not made optional, otherwise people may miss it, when they come to these parts.

Hm, I thought great at first.

~ Animation/Graphics ~

Did you create these sprites yourself or were they something that you found? Either way they were really fitting and if you made them yourself then they were professional looking sprites. The animation was smooth, but it did tend to create a lot of lag for some reason. I'm assuming that problem was simply with my computer and not with your game.

I really enjoyed how fluent and realistic the shadows were. At first I didn't really notice it, but they were actually very well done. When they were almost vertical they still had a 3-D look to them, which I liked a lot.

~ Story/Content ~

You get an A for the idea of the game as it's very original. The beginning of the game was really creepy and I fully enjoyed the atmosphere that you created there. I found the game to get a little difficult and I'm saddened to say that I couldn't complete it. It wasn't that it got too hard, but I didn't find that the story kept me interested enough to keep me in the game trying over parts where I had once failed. All and all the game play got boring for me. :(

~ Audio ~

This had very good music all around and the sound effects were very fitting. I like that you had text instead of a voice actor just because these games don't seem to be very fitting with voices.

~ Overall ~

I believe that I can't give this a fully honest review because I haven't finished it, but I also have the excuse that the story wasn't interesting enough in my opinion to keep me into it. All in all it's a very original idea for a game and if I had more patience tonight I'd probably be able to make my way through it.

I made the sprites myself and seeing my abilities improve was great. The lava pit and the altar were the last sprites I did and I'm really happy with them. Pitty a lot players seem to not like pixel graphics!

Interesting

Not a bad game. Some parts were frustrating, getting used to the whole style of gameplay you've created was an adjustment at first - but once I started figuring things out it was quite fun. I love the beginning of the game, very creepy, especially when you discover your father's remains. The butterflies were difficult to steer at certain points, but I managed to figure it out with a bit of practice. The golems really sucked too, lol.

I managed to get most of the level done where the lava pit is, and my curiousity got the best of me. I just HAD to see what happened, so I jumped in, and had to restart the whole level :( I was not pleased with the result, lol. I did it though, and managed to finish the game. The ending was seriously lacking, IMO. I really wish some of the story was explained because we are left completely clueless as to what happened. Terrible ending.

Overall though, the drawings were fine for a game of this type, the animation was okay, the music was nice and creepy, the sounds were very appropriate, and the game was pretty fun and interesting. I'll give you an 8 out of 10. I hope you keep making games though, as I did enjoy this. Keep up the good work!

well done sir!

This is a fun and challenging game. I like the way you can jump right in and explore. Then when you mess up it is not the end of the world or game over. Good clean fun!

Good game, but unrewarding.

The ending, to me at least, didn't really bring any closure to the story. What drove the shadow creatures to attack your father when he was near a campfire? What WERE the shadow creatures? Will the cave remain, unchanged, until someone else ventures in? To me, it seems like it didn't have an end. Even when you get the good ending, you get an ending only slightly different from the bad ending, where you second-guess leaving.

I hope this means "to be continued".

There are many tablets in the last level that give hints at what happened. But I guess a reunion with Daddy would have been more rewarding. Especially because he might have known the answers to your questions!^^
