Reviews for "Age of Defense"

Well...

That was a whole lot of work for nothing. No sandbox mode or anything after surviving 40 days? I beat level 40 and then, as a reward, it erases my save file and says start a new game? No thanks. It was entertaining for a while, but one run through is all I want to do. The last tier gun was stupid underpowered, and the grenades and other explosives you were supposed to get suck. And the magic: what did it even really do? I got to the last tier of the magic and it seemed like the light did NOTHING to enemies. It's almost as though it's just there to make it look like something's happening.

As I mentioned before, the last tier of the guns, the laser, was severely underpowered. Sure, it eradicated an entire line of enemies with two shots, but the distance was shorter than the enemies at the end of the game stopped at. I wound up just using a bazooka with double bounce and double pierce (pretty sure double bounce only works with throwables). I didn't even see the point of buying the levels, considering I needed every ounce of points in the world just to match up to the enemies with weapons and skill upgrades. You shouldn't have to buy new scenery, especially since when you beat the game your file gets erased. Pretty pointless if you ask me. I give this a 7 out of 10 just because it held my interest for a short amount of time.

So, here it is.

The game was pretty good. But really the system needs balancing. I played through upgrading only my throwing weapons, while getting piercing and bouncing along the way, only got to level 19 before getting overrun. I tried with the bow, upgrading only it, and getting the piercing and bouncing upgrades which is absolutely vital, at least the piercing is. Anyways got obliterated at level 19 because of those darn phoenix things. So I figure wth, I bought and upgraded only guns, speed, and piercing, I dominated everything before it got halfway across the screen. I bought all the guns, and got piercing 2, left bouncing 2 alone because it's useless to guns, had to get bouncing 1 to get piercing 2. Then I started upgrading bases, and by then I had max speed, so I bought some of the health and armor upgrades with my bases, because strength is absolutely useless when dealing with firearms also. After that I invested in the spells, fire, poison, explosion, light. And once I bought the final base I switched the scenery to the second to last so they were in a better line up for me to shoot. I rarely if ever had to use the spells, and the throwing bombs sucked pretty bad. I didn't buy those till the very end when I wanted to see what they were all about. I was disappointed. The game was fun, but stuff needs to be tweaked. I agree with some previous posters, there needs to be more definition. Such as show a gauge like this |||||||| that shows how many bullets are left in a gun, or how many more arrows you have, but arrows shouldn't even have to reload, save for between each shot. A reloading animation would be kind of cool for each gun. And the laser gun should not suck as much, I mean I used it and I got owned, switched back to a rocket launcher and destroyed everything. I mean that laser was absolutely pointless, if it went all the way across the screen then we'd be talking. Also if you get 1 bounce and 1 pierce, or 2 bounce and 2 pierce, you can throw spears and they'll stick into the ground, so you make a wall of own, that anything walks into will get injured if not killed by. Your spears can sustain a couple of hits while sitting there and don't disappear for a long long time. But alas, that is pointless when you can just own the game with guns only. That's really the only way to go, I can't figure any other way to win. Also if one set cooled down while you used the other that would be nice as AnEnigma already stated. Good job, but fine tuning is needed.

Good system, but

the "primary and secondary weapon" thing is completely pointless. Your weapon set doesn't cooldown while on the other set. There's no real benefit to using the other set. Really makes the game unenjoyable (especially when you get later in the game when you NEED that first set cooling while using the second set).

Also, a sandbox mode would be cool for this (i.e. if you die, you get to try that level again so you keep your upgrades).

eh... seems like kind of copy job.

well, this looks alot like age of war in a way... you even used the same exact music louissi used, despite the tons of music available on this site.

all i can see that you did was add in your usual point and upgrade system seen in your humaliens and myth war games.

the points really arent a good system, i mean... it takes me 3-4 battles' worth of unused points just to be able to afford the cheapest upgrades, thats REALLY bad... i cant see myself getting anywhere in this game when i cant even afford the most essential upgrades!

i barely made it past the... third battle i think it was, cause of those large birds and swarms of cavemen, the spell didnt seem to do much, it cleared the screen, but before i know it, two more birds and tons of cavemen were coming at me and i had nothing to help me out, all i could do was throw rocks and hope i won.

this game has 40 levels and 8 ages? then we should be getting alot more points for every battle, otherwise i dont see myself making it past level 5... even if i saved up all the points til then, i'd only be able to get maybe 2-3 upgrades before all the points are used up.

as with most of your games, the balance needs to be worked on... seems like every game is set to work against the player.

i took away a couple of points for the blatant copy job, and a couple more for the same old unbalanced points/upgrade system seen in the last couple games i played made by you.

im not trying to sound too harsh, but this just seems too similar to age of war in appearance and using the same music, even... that doesnt help.

again, you need to work on the balance, too... i honestly think its impossible to beat this game simply cause we dont get enough points for upgrades early on.

despite alot of people whining about games being too easy, etc... if a game is too hard, you're making it unplayable for a large audience of casual gamers who play for fun, not to push themselves to inhuman levels of gaming skill just so they can brag and make themselves sound important.

Fun, good, but missing some stuff.

This game is a very good one, kept me entertained for awhile. There are a few things, however, that caught my eye and that should have been fixed. Like a reload button, sometimes I was just waiting for something to happen, I was at next to no ammo, and I wanted to reload, but couldn't. Another thing that was annoying was that the "Continue next wave" button should have been where the quit button was. This was a problem, seeing that as stated before, your upgrades don't save. It would also be useful to see what your upgrades do before you buy them, what ones are more powerful, what ones do certain things, ect. And for your next game, try to put in stat bars for the weapons, different reload times for different guns (This was a problem seeing as the handgun had a very long reload time), more realistic magazines (A tube-style rocket launcher that holds 10 rockets?), and with the rocket launcher, rockets that blow up, if you have the time. The enemies can also go from being very easy one round, to being in very large numbers with high health the next. like I said before, it would have helped if there was stuff to tell you what certain things did so I would have gotten it and have been prepared.

Now I've never made a flash game or movie, so I don't know how hard all this stuff is to create, but I think you could do it from what I've seen. You make good games.

Good game overall though, hope this helps.
