Reviews for "Vertical Drop Heroes"

Fun, but extremely buggy

The randomly-generated levels make things interesting most of the time, but you need to use predetermined level structures in two key places: during boss fights, and for the last couple of linesof blocks on each level. I cannot count the number of times where I got to a boss fight and was literally unable to beat it because I couldn't get to the boss as a paladin -- I almost always had to purposefully get hit so I could return to the default form in order to jump high enough. A couple of times the blocks were generated in such a way that even the default form couldn't jump high enough, forcing me to kill myself in order to restart the entire level. One time I didn't even have that option: I got to the Putrid Pig boss as a paladin with the blocks stacked so that I couldn't jump over them, and apparently the Pig's attacks can't hurt paladins, so I had to completely quit the game.

One big problem

You're really awesome idea for random level generation has a big, glaring flaw. It traps me in more times than I would enjoy. Sure I can hit Q if I want to give up but you know what? It's not my fault. Why should I be penalized for your crappy use of a mechanic? It's not even a bug. It's just how random generation works.

Annoying and kills any sense of satisfaction garnered from the game. That and falling to your death on spikes blows, because sometimes you just can't see under yourself far enough. Major issues in functionality. Otherwise, it would be a fine game.

fun and simple

For some reason the jump button is unresponsive. I would try to jump and my character would ignore me and I would end up falling and missing that last chest I need to reach the target goal. I also had a hard time trying to squeeze in between a block and a hero/chest. Why can the ranger and the mage attacks break hero cages? Enemies are few and yet had no real purpose. You can easily pass all of them and some dont make sense. A kid in a cactus suit that you can jump on? I wish attacks weren't limited as well.

It's Ok

just a generic platformer, really. Visual Asthetics are the only thing that seperates this from any other platformer on newgrounds, and while i thought it was a good idea, it just left the rest of the game bland and generic. its not bad, but its not great either.

Everything was good EXCEPT

The randomly generated levels. I died so many time due to poor level design. I can't tell you how many times I've taken damage because it was the only way to progress or purposefully went into the black cloud because there was not other way. Again, everything else was good, the different heroes created strategy and variation in the game, when the level wasn't screwing me over the diffuculty was fair, and the concept was good. Sadly, the randomly generated levels were a terrible idea that ruined the game.
