So what if this is his first game?
This is seriously overrated. Just because it's his first game, it doesn't warrant a higher/more lenient score.
Anyway, this is basically a simple dodge/collect game. Animation is fluid, but other than that, nothing special. Though there are several points to be fixed.
1. You are severely limited by your fuel. Apparently, a space shuttle cannot store sufficient fuel to reach space and has to count on green rocks to fuel it. Due to this, the importance of increasing the fuel stat exceeds everything else. I basically spent all my points on fuel, then any remainder on mobility.
2. Armour is useless. At the end of the entire game, I had 1 point in armour. And I never died due to too much damage.
3. Mobility doesn't seem to be very effective, but that happens a lot in games, so this is not too bad. At least I could see a difference between the beginning of the game, and when I almost maxed it at the end of the game.
4. The above 3 points can add up into 1 single point. The stat system needs o be more balanced.
Basically it goes like this:
Fuel>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Mobility>>>Ar mour
I simply dump as much as possible into fuel. Story apparently also depends on it. You NEED to increase fuel stat to advance. Having the way you choose stats be limited by the story is a bad idea.
5. The story is absurd. Then again, it's 2012. It doesn't need to make sense. An asteroid is coming and you're supposed to destroy it by delivering a bomb to it. can't they just use an unmanned rocket? The most ridiculous point I have is already stated earlier: The space shuttle cannot store enough fuel for space flight and has to count on green rocks to fuel it.
I could probably go on and talk about every single thing that I thought doesn't make sense and was given no explanation, but I decided against doing so. I doubt it would have much benefit anyway.
Maybe next time you create a story, use something more believable and realistic, or a completely fantasy story. It won't be so jarring.
6. After you complete the game, it glitches up and your space shuttle is stuck to the top of the screen. If you press space to let it fly, it isn't affected by anything and the shuttle disappeared and it hanged at 12760 altitude with no fuel. Bug test your game thoroughly.
Nevertheless, don't lose hope. Do note that this review completely disregards the fact that this is your first game, but don't use this as an excuse to think you done well. There is still lots to improve on.
