Reviews for "We Are Science Probes"

That's Heavy, Dude

Very interesting view of how the uber-religious might view science...though potentially flame war fuel. The robot and spaceship designs were very unique, I applaud your ingenuity. Although, to be fair, I question the logic (pardon the pun) of an alien race interested in interplanetary exploration designing its science probes with external, removable logic circuits that are still functional after removal.

pretty good animation.

i have to say, the designs on the robots were just inspired. they were sufficiently cute and robotic. :D the story is pretty cool too, what with the loss of logic leading to self-destruction.
problem is, lots of people seem to think that what's shown in the video is what happens in real life. uhh, guys, it's obviously exaggerated. dogmatic thinking isn't that extreme, except for a few niches. you can't really call yourself a free thinker if you're dissing on dogmatists. :D

Dogmatic thinking can lead to a lack of...

See, the first problem is, Kansas doesn't teach astrology, or indeed, the use of witch craft to solve problems of solar power, which was their main problem. It may teach creationism, but at most that would give them a poor classification of biology in the world.

Witches and people who believe in horoscopes and rabbit feet aren't especially dogmatic. They're extremely open minded. They'll accept any pseudoscience that sounds sorta right. And their minds are very malleable. They're also opposed to Christianity, and creationism. Christianity doesn't like magic.

The meteor, statistically, is an act of god. It hit the robot because you wanted to demonstrate a point. It would be an utterly unreasonable assumption to assume that a random meteor would hit one of four 1 metre radiuses out of 501 billion other metres in the world.

Humans aren't prone to the problems the robots have. We have emotions, as well as logic. Emotions shape pseudologic. Such as, you need food, you need sun. It's just, absurdly anvilistic. And presents unrealistic problems. Some scientific minded individuals such as yourself would like it if illogical thoughts lead to consequences. They really don't. People may be illogical, but they understand what works and what feels good, trust technology that works.

There is some evidence that illogical behaviour is evolutionarily favoured over logic. Logic involves thinking of counter examples to your case, which weakens your confidence in your argument. In a host of things- an argument over breeding rights to a woman, fighting over resources, convincing someone to ignore your flaws and let you socialize with their group, logic is actively detrimental because it forces you to consider you might be wrong. Emotion tells you what you need, and logic can seriously impede you in getting that.

This feels just like wish fulfillment. You want bad things to happen to illogical people, because you are logical, and you don't like them. A standard, illogical hate of people who aren't a member of your group- demonize the enemy, and all.

There's a minor weakness for some sort of medical treatment for small sects- Jehovah's witnesses aren't keen on blood transplants, a few christians may believe in prayer without medical care, but they are very, very rare.

Dogmaticism has huge advantages. So does irrationality. That's why they're problems.

Still, cool video, so you get good marks.

Great

i have to agree with everyone below there isn't much that i can say that i can't disagree with

Could of been better

Pushing your message across in your animation was too literal instead of suggested.

Since when did extraterrestrials pick up English instantaneously as well as American culture?

I'm not a fan of Fox news and other illogical concepts you showcased in this short animation either but I was disappointed that you pushed politics and religion to what could of been a cool animation about probes looking at Earth after humanity had passed. (In fact, having the fate of humanity be unclear would of made your animation stay fresher as years go by.) Best example: Wally - sure it was an environmental film - but it wasn't literal in who it was referencing. Obvious but not literal.

Other then that, great animation though the music in the beginning and the end did not flow with the rest of the piece.

I'm sorry I'm so harsh in this post but I'm tired of political animations especially when they are pushed in this way.
