Nice retro game
This was a nice little atari like platformer you made which was simple at it's finest,the graphics looked good for 4-bit and the controls were solid with some fun boss fights too,overall you did a nice job on this game.

Lets go RETRO!
Its short which makes it a nice time waster. I love the precision jump part, it adds the the authenticity of the Atari age. btw- To those that complain about not being able to jump and shoot. Its based on the Atari age which (as far as I remember) never had a game in which you could jump and shoot at the same time.

This game had so much potential...
I liked your game. It was simple and fun but it had some issues:
1 - It slowed down on the room with a big amount of bugs (one you could shot a rock where the bugs can enter it) the room with the disappearing platform, and the one before the bat boss. My pc is very fast and so is my internet, so maybe the problem on the game.
2 - Jumping on general felt more like being cautious with the height of the stages than timing and skill.
3 - Can't get the Fool's Gold medal even with 71 coins...
4 - Too short.
I'm taking a point from the score for each of the issues except the shortness one. I felt the game could be more fun than this, and that short attempt at story didn't impress much.
On a short note, that reference at the end was awesome. I going to give you a 8 instead of 7 because of it, but please work more on the next game ; )
Genocide responds:
the game slows down due to limitations of flash, i could remove some assets to improve performance, but i don't think it hinders performance so bad that it needs to be that way.
Also, check to make sure you don't have "11" coins, the 1's in the text look like 7's. I have had no issue getting that achievement, and others have unlocked it as well.
Edit: did some level modifications to improve performance on some stages. hope this helps :O

Not a bad game though, I would like it to be a bit longer, but I would recommend going through it.
