Reviews for "WHOOKOS Beta: Epis 2"

Improved

I found this alot more funny than the first episode. I smiled and giggled inside when rat hit the black haired girl. Good episode, keep it up.

Steps in a good direction

You've really pulled Whookos out, Scoot. This episode was better in nearly every aspect.

Art Style: 6/10: The cartoony look is interesting. You do a good job of making the characters expressive and diverse-looking. Very good stuff. However:
Aargh, Tweening, my arch-nemesis, strikes again. It doesn't really fit usually in this series. I've harped on it enough, so I'll leave it at that.
The backgrounds were extremely "blah." there was an over-abundance of stock-gradients and a lot of gray. Like I said in the A.E. review, some photoshop-drawn backdrops would make it feel a lot more cartoony and diverse than doing everything with straight lines and gradients do. For instance, the boxes in the storage room. There was no need for them to be gradients and made with the line tool. They felt weird, maybe because of the way they were stacked, but I feel hand-drawn would have been a better way to go.

Story: 8/10: this is where Whookos got its higher score from. This was not a cliche "Karate Kid" trope, like the original. It felt like it fit together better. I actually laughed out loud at parts, like the "Dress-ER!" gag. The scottish grandpa seemed very random, but it worked well. I still don't know exactly what on earth the objective of pushing off the ceiling was, if it WASN'T to break it, but heck with it, it was funny. Your sense of comedic timing was much, much better this time around.

Sound: 7/10: Sound isn't exactly as detremental here as it is in A.E. and as such, it works much better here than it does in A.E. You made a good choice with Less Than Jake as your soundtrack (I've always been more of a Five Iron Frenzy guy for my Sca, but hey, to each their own :3) as it fits well. The sound effects were simple, but effective as well.
Voices. It was a mixed bag this time around. For one, Rat and Swiffer sounded almost exactly the same this time, especially in the first bathroom scene. It would have helped if it was a little more diverse. The voice acting was still extremely stiff here, but I did hear some improvement overall. The girls did a good job. I can't stress this enough, though: invest some more time into vocal inflection; this applies to everyone. It's a simple but effective way to increase the quality of these episodes by an enormous amount.

Overall: 8/10: Steps in a good direction, especially where the story was concerned. It's more the mechanics of the flash that pulled it down this time. This series has more potential than I expected from the first one, so keep it up!

Hey, Jordanhawaii? You're a moron.

This might not be Scoot's best work, it might not be the best flash on Newgrounds, and it might not be your cup of tea--but giving him a zero is just petty. You insult his animation, but what right have you? You've never animated a thing in your life, but I can understand if your dislike of the genre gives you a negative disposition. Fine--but the flash is still not deserving of a zero. You hate the art, you think it's lazy (though you undoubtedly have no idea how grueling the animation process is), fine.

But there are things you must take into account, here. He self-composed most or all of the music featured in this episode, and it's all excellent and fitting. His animation style borrows from anime and he likes the look of it, and many people enjoy that--it's not meant to be serious, regardless of whether or not that pleases you. The writing is well-rounded, engaging, and cute. The voice acting isn't perfect, but that in itself sort of adds to the 'reality' of it, and it is by no means terrible.

You can point fingers and flame all you want, but even if you refuse to acknowledge this flash's merits, the world goes on. Scoot doesn't care what you think (doesn't care what I think, either), and your opinion is inconsequential--as well as ignorant, biased, and a score of other things. For all of your whining, people will continue to enjoy this flash.

Even if you don't like it--learn to give credit where it's due, at least. You'll look like less of a bastard that way.

Very good

It is great to see another entry in this series as you just started this. I like the inclusion of the clip you made yourself being shown on the TV screen. I like how this is so incomprehensible like this old guy named Poppy suddenly appearing. Most likely because of the theme, I kept thinking his name was "Poopy". It could have used some more gags and maybe a little more of a story, but it was still enjoyable. The animation is as great as ever and it is great to see female characters introduced.

Kenshin's voice was horrible.

Review time go!
Animation: 8/10
You seemed to either improve on tweening or you started doing frame by frame more often. Either way, it was better.
Audio: 4/10
I noticed an audio blip in one of Rat's lines, I think he moved his mic while he was voicing. And the girl that played Kenshin's part had a horrible mic.
Story/Humor: 6/10
Story was still a generic kids in school eff around, but you added a sort of twist on it this episode, I don't think anyone has ever had someone kick a hole in the ceiling like that. A lot of jokes were really immature though. Like the whole episode had a poop gag. I didn't really find it funny. Though I did laugh at a few parts like the flushing BB part. Also I liked how in the voice outtakes you parodied Street Fighter Chode.

Overall: 7/10
Better than the last one, not the best animation on Newgrounds though. I know you can do better though. Also I'm wondering, do you do a big skype call and record the lines from that or something?
