Okay, I'm going to try to explain a few possibilities.
That the 'robot' was an actual human being. That's very possible. However, 'it' did not act totaly human. (AKA how things looked. Very istatic all the way, same level of panic.)
Another, that it was too intellegant for itself. It WAS a human. It just wasn't...Human.

Like Z3lut said, if you went farther with this in any way possible, you could have a complete series on your hands, and the way this actually has things that exist behind it (chat bots, turing tests, etc.) instead of things that are completely random, along with a good level of suspense, this can go a lot farther my friend.
