Reviews for "Duality Complete"

i like it but

it could of been a little longer

Duality...

It's a human illusion we make to separate things from each-other. Specifically concepts and ideologies. Duality fails to take into account everything that is the same about the "opposites", nor the way they interact. Males and Females both are human, with the same goals in life, almost the same age, etc.., light and dark are both needed to make out shapes and being able to see the way we do, technology is most-often based off of nature, and is mankind's attempt to replicate natural phenomena. Yin and Yang is actually the perfect representation of appropriate duality, with both needing the other to exist, and each incorporating at least some of the other in themselves. However, dualistic realities never exist. Everything is relative, everything has shades, and hardly, if ever, lies within the extremes.

Just something to think about.

I like what you were doing with the experimental animation, but it would really help your work if you really confronted the idea of duality instead of demonstrating it in different clichéd references. (I have the exact same problem in my work, it's not something one easily gets over)

Weenog responds:

I agree with most of what you hafto say, something can't have an opposing factor if there isn't something that links the two together. man & woman, darkness and light, organical & mechanical and so on are very firmly dependent on the other to even exist, however what i feel creates the duality is there inability to be brought together in harmony and for both to still fully exist.

Duality in concepts & idea's can definatly be an illusion, perhaps unique to human thinking.. i was thinking to myself the other day "Is chaos simply order so complex that it cannot be understood by any mortal means? Then i remembered these are just human made labels, but however "made up" they are, they can't help but come back to uss in our daily life.

You say dualistic realities do not exist. But reality can only be experienced trough perception and all perception is riddles with illusions. All that percieve form their own persistent illusions in life.
even though we can all understand that good and evil are man made idea's and relative, we can't help but concider some people bad for what they have done, and if there's a bad, there must be a good.
though we can all see that in nature and on a larger scale these things may irrelevant, it something that remains persistent for all of uss in our daily lives.

Perhaps it's simply our nature to seperate all things from another....be they "true or false" ;)

Liked the idea

Not the best of executions, but the idea was interesting.

I've actually thought of this concept often, and I've concluded in my mind that something similar to this is going to happen eventually in terms of engineering. I can kind of sense the presence of some uniquely incredibly innovative people on this earth (people who aren't well known), because hypothetically if you as an individual think in a certain way, you would naturally expect there to be others who share the same way of thinking.

But enough about that, this was good for a first real animation, the only advice I have is to work on your execution - which would involve reworking multiple elements such as the sound (I feel it could have fit the idea better, as it sounds overly desolate, though I do understand it was going for a dramatic feel), story (couldn't bring myself to 'believe' it, you know?), graphics (not really necessary to improve in this case, the graphics are sufficient as long as the other elements are improved on), and the animation (the flow, the style - the animation here seemed pretty linear and inexpressive to me personally, i.e. the motion, even though this was practically almost inevitable due to it being pencil drawn). To make this kind of thing reach its full potential, you have to instill as much meaning as you can into every little detail, as if you're weaving something together of which every component has a purpose - this way you create a short, thoughtful animation with huge impact. To perfectly execute this, however, you'd likely have to spend more time planning out the animation than animating it.

Well, that's all I have to share, good job on your first and good luck on your next project :]

Weenog responds:

Hmmm, what can i say... i'm glad you liked the idea.. i get that "i was gonna do that!" feeling quite alot aswell. fact is, there's probably no idea out there that hasn't been thought of before, all you can do is offer a fresh perspective to it or combine things in interesting ways.

As for the rest i can't say i have any real regrets about the decisions i made .... having seen it about a thousand times myself it has become quite difficult to look at objectively. It's hard to imagine how "intense" this is gonna be for someone who hasn't seen it & doesn't know me. To bad it couldent sweep you away though ;)

I did plan this ahead for quite some time & did everything in my power to make this as good as i could, so i don't think thats the real issue. all i can realy say is, it's my first movie afterall and i still have a alot to learn.

thanks for the review & take care. ^^

Real deep but a bit confusing.

It think it means you need both light and dark. Like, the mechanical flower with life, a mixture of the two, looked beautiful compared to the light and dark side. But if everything had a total balance it became kind of frighting and destroyed the light and dark. So it's good to be balanced but not totally balanced or else everything becomes dull?

Thats what I get so far. But it was really well animated and had a nice...confusing meaning.

Hm...

I figure I get the overall idea, but it was a bit too short for my taste. The end was a bit confusing as well. It seems that the red "flower" was a metallic object, but had life in it, like a metal plant. It grew on the border of light and dark, so... is it the combination of both? Total balance?
Hm...
Well, balance is what I beleive in and stand for. Although it is short and strange, it does have a deeper meaning to it, and thats the fun part; figuring it out.
Balance, for teh win.
